Race 1
CHOCOLATE BOMB produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. He did not get off to the best of starts, over raced in the early stages but fought hard all the way to the line. The son of Lancaster Bomber would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the horse to beat.
DARING ACT was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1200m on the Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He drops to the 1000m and if putting his best foot forward, he should pose a threat.
LOVEGRASS is the stable companion of the top choice and she is an unraced daughter of Gimmethegreenlight. Diego De Gouveia takes the ride and if not too green, she should give a good account of herself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
Race 2
FUSHIMI INARI stayed on at the finish over 1700m at the Vaal last time, but found one too good in the form of Hotarubi. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Danon Platina should love the rise to 1800m and from his good draw of three, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
MANZ KNIGHT should have won his last start as he hung in the final 700m. He has no issues with the drop to 1800m and if keeping on a straight line, he should be involved in the fight to the finish
MVELELO showed good improvement in his last start over this distance on the Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. If confirming his recent improvement, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest
Race 3
EMPRESS GAME has produced three good efforts to date. She showed good pace over this C&D last time, but was outrun. The daughter of Pathfork has plenty of scope and can get it right this afternoon
CONTRA FISCUM showed good pace over 1200m last time, but found one too good in the form of Sigrid Swing. The daughter of Potala Palace should have no issues with the drop to 1000m and she is one of the leading contenders.
WILKIES has finished second in her last two starts over this distance. Athandiwe Mgudlwa steps back into the saddle and with a bit of luck in running, she should go close to winning.
Race 4
ATTICUS FINCH was an easy winner of his last start over this C&D. He was settled near the rear of the field and ran on powerfully. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Gavin Lerena takes the ride and he can follow up.
STRATOSPHERIC has good consistent form lines to his credit. He stayed on when third over 1400m at the Vaal last time. He won his only attempt on this course. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
TIZONA has finished second in his last three starts. He finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. He tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand.
Race 5
KWAZZI‘S LADY is a winner of her last three starts. She is unbeaten from two starts over this distance. The daughter of Coup De Grace received a four-pound penalty for her last victory. She gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo and in this field, she should take a power of beating.
QUEEN BOMI was a tad disappointing in her last start over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and should run a big race.
LAST CHEER returns from a 21-week break which would have done her the world of good. The 7yo mare may be in need of this run, but meets the right field and cannot be ignored
Race 6
MERCANTOUR stayed on when third over 1160m on this course last time. He has won three times, finished second once and third twice from ten starts on this course. He has finished second twice and third once from four starts over this distance. The son of Var will be mowing down the frontrunners.
ROLLWITHTHEPUNCHES finished 0.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line
MOVER AND SHAKER is better than his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Siyanda Sosibo steps back into the saddle and he should be hard to peg back.
Race 7
MUNCHKIN has produced two fair efforts since returning from a 22-week break. He finished 2 lengths behind COVERT OPERATOR in his penultimate start. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is having his peak run today and Kaidan Brewer may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
COVERT OPERATOR ran on well when winning his last start over 1000m on this course. He meets a similar type of field today and merits healthy respect
BLACK EGRET finished 1.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. He won his penultimate start under Raymond Danielson and must be included in all bets.
Race 8
FULLY LOADED was unlucky not to have won his last start as he had to be switched at the 300m mark. If getting away to a clean start and with a bit of luck in running, he can go one better.
FORT LAUDERDALE finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D and is one of the leading contenders.
AFTER HOURS finished 2.6 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. On his best form shown, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest
