Race 1

CAT O’CLOCK raced from a handy position over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Pearl In Her Crown. She gets the services of Phelisile Mongqawa which should make the difference. He is riding at the top of his game. The daughter of Rafeef meets the right field and she should be rewarded for consistency.

BLACK HOLE SUN ran a decent race when second over 1200m on this course last time. She stayed on at the finish but found one too good in the form of Palace Dancer. Tom Lukhele retains the ride and the combination may complete the exacta.

PLUM BLOSSOM is inconsistent, but finished third over 1800m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The drop in trip is a slight concern but she gets the services of Julius Horing who won his last work riders race. The daughter of Ideal World will be mowing down the frontrunners.

Race 2

CHARIOT OF FIRE is better than his last start suggests. It was a strong Maiden field, he raced green on the turn and was reported to be coughing post-race. The son of Captain Of All produced a promising debut effort over 1200m on this course under Craig Zackey. He will enjoy the return to the straight course and in this line-up, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

KALEESH CYBORG was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course. His debut effort when second over 1160m at Turffontein catches the eye. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

KAROO GOLD returns from a 17-week break which would have done him the world of good. The son of Ideal World may need the run and 1400m may be on the short side for him. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he can earn a cheque for his patrons.

Race 3

WINDS OF CHANGE returns from an 11-week break and is having his first run for the season. He should have finished closer to the winner in the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe last time as he was steadied and switched at the 300m mark. He ran a cracker in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion in his penultimate run. The son of What A Winter takes on Maiden Company and should be a certainty in this field.

PURSUIT OF FAME was disappointing in his last start over 1000m on the Classic course. He has finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. He gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew which will assist his cause.

SOLAR SAIL finished 1.5 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 2.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. He would have come on from the run and should strip a much fitter horse.

Race 4

FAITHFUL MISTRESS produced a promising debut effort over this C&D. She raced from a prominent position and stayed on to finish third under Philasande Mxoli. The daughter of Master Of My Fate would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat in this line-up.

SHAKE IT was in need of her debut effort over 1100m at Turffontein. She returns from a 15-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber has plenty of scope and if not in need of the run, she should pose a threat.

EXPLOSIVE GIFT is an unraced daughter of Lancaster Bomber from the Lucky Houdalakis stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. She is related to two-time winner Duke Of Rain. If not in need of this outing, she should give a good account of herself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 5

BOB’S YOUR UNCLE has consistent form lines to his credit. He set the pace over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course last time and stayed on to finish third. The son of Royal Mo won over this distance on the Classic course, three runs ago. Craig Zackey is likely to place him in a prominent position and he should be hard to peg back.

OPEN HIGHWAY won his last start over this C&D, easier than the official margin suggests. He finished 2 lengths behind the top selection in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.

BLACK EGRET finished 1.5 lengths behind the second selection in his last start. He is 2kgs better off at the weights which is enough to turn the form around. However, OPEN HIGHWAY won easier than the official margin suggests and he may still have the upper hand.

Race 6

KARATE KID made the expected natural improvement when winning his last start over this distance at Turffontein. He was backed into odds-on favourite that day. The son of Erupt showed good speed, found another kick and drew off in the run down to the line. He is a progressive type and despite his big mass, he may be the one to side with.

BLAZE A WAY quickened up well when shedding his maiden tag at the second time of asking. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena keeps faith in the ride. He is coming along the right way and should be involved at the finish.

JOHNNY APPLESEED won easier than the official margin suggests under work rider Phelisile Mongqawa last time. The son of Admiral Kitten does take on stronger, but he could be anything and may be up to the task at hand.

Race 7

EIGER SANCTION has won his last two starts on the Turffontein Inside course with ease. He raced from a handy position over 1800m last time and drew clear of the opposition. The son of Potala Palace was given a five-pound penalty for that victory. He is yet to win on this course but he is in a good space and that statistic could change.

DUAL PROPHECY finished 4 lengths behind the top selection last time. He is 5kgs better off at the weights today which is enough for the tables to be turned. However, EIGER SANCTION won easier than the official margin suggests and he may still have the upper hand.

MASTER TIK TOK followed up his maiden victory with a fair fourth-place finish over this distance on the Classic course. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. He takes a slight drop in class and can earn another cheque for his patrons.

Race 8

BEAMONESQUE showed good improvement in a Graduation Plate over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he hung in the final 400m. The son of Rafeef should have no issues with the rise to 1400m. His only victory came under Gavin Lerena and if keeping on a straight line, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

GIMMEACHOICE has finished second in his last two starts over a mile. He drops to the 1400m and the blinkers will sharpen him up. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

HAPPY MO rallied late when second over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The daughter of Royal Mo should be ideally suited to 1400m. She is in a good space and should give the males a run for their money
