RACE 1
BRETTY has shown good improvement in her last two starts with the blinkers fitted. She showed speed over this distance on the turf last time, but found one too good in the form of Miss Predator. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. If suited to the polytrack, she can go one better in this line-up.
ELEGANT APPEAL finished 4.25 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Global View would have gained from the experience and should make the natural improvement.
SEPTEMBER FLOWER is an unraced daughter of One World from the Alan Greeff stable with Richard Fourie in the saddle. She is related to two-time winner Cian The Conqueror. If not in need of this outing, she should give a good account of herself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
RACE 2
WALT WHITMAN ran a fair race on debut over 1400m on this course. He was slow into stride and stayed on to finish fourth. The son of Canford Cliffs would have gained from the experience. He may be at his best over further, but meets the right field and can shed his maiden tag.
A BIT CHILLY is having his first run for the Gavin Smith stable and as a gelding. The son of Last Winter has plenty of scope and if suited to the polytrack, he should have improvement to come.
COWBOYS DON’T CRY was in need of his debut effort over 1000m on the turf. He returns from a 13-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. Luyolo Mxothwa is booked to ride and he should make the natural progression.
RACE 3
RESURGENCE was in need of his local debut effort over 1000m, in a work riders contest. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Gold Standard would have gained from the experience and should strip much fitter. He meets a weak field and can improve to win.
COLONEL GREEN is better than his last start as he was reported to be fatigued. His penultimate run when third over this distance on the turf, was encouraging. If finding the form of that race, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
STATESMAN returns from a 31-week break and he is having his first run for the Alan Greeff stable. He meets the right field in his local debut and can show massive improvement under Richard Fourie.
RACE 4
VINTAGE CRYSTAL produced a fair local debut effort over 1200m on the turf. She lost a length leaving the start but stayed on nicely at the finish. The daughter of Gold Standard will love the rise to 1400m. She jumps from a good draw of three and if jumping on terms, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
HANGING ROCK should have finished closer to the winner last time as she raced wide around the turn and hung in the final 400m. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. She is having her peak run and is one of the leading contenders.
NTOMBENHLE is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. Her form prior to that outing was consistent. She is having her first run for Cliffie Miller and if settled into her new surroundings, she can earn another cheque.
Race 5
SLINGS AND ARROWS was rewarded for consistency when winning his last start over this C&D. He set the pace, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. The son of Trippi received a four-pound penalty for that victory. Craig Zackey is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy and he may be hard to peg back.
NO PLACE LIKE HOME was a surprise winner in his local debut over 1200m on this course. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick. He will love the rise to 1400m and with Richard Fourie booked to ride, he can follow up.
ESSENTIAL followed up her maiden win with an equally impressive victory over 1600m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She does take on stronger, but is in a good space and can bring up the hat- trick.
Race 6
LUNA HALO ran on well and fought hard when second in her last start over 1400m on the turf. She has won twice and finished second once from four starts over this distance. The daughter of Fire Away is the best-weighted runner in this contest. She is unbeaten from two starts on this course and can keep that record intact.
AMAZING COLOURS is better than her last start in the Listed TAB East Cape Derby. She has won once and finished second five times from as many starts on this course. If putting her best foot forward, she should be the one to fill the exacta spot.
OCTOBER FAIR has fair recent form lines to her name. She is having her first run for the Gavin Smith stable. The daughter of Silvano has won once, finished second once and third twice from six starts over this distance. If settled into her new surroundings, she should give a good account of herself.
RACE 7
GIMME’S LADDIE did not get off to the best of starts last time and finished his race off strongly. He finished 0.1 lengths behind CAPTAIN CASANOVA that day. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should notch up his third-career victory.
CAPTAIN CASANOVA was running on when second over this C&D last time. The cheekpieces seem to have done the trick on the son of Captain Of All. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
SIBERIAN STEEL stayed on when fifth over 1000m in his local debut. He would have come on from the outing and if suited to the polytrack, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
RACE 8
HAVANA GREY is better than her last start in the Listed Dahlia Plate. Her first two career outings over this C&D were very good. The daughter of Heavenly Blue takes on older rivals, but she has plenty of scope and can return to winning ways.
MISS PREDATOR showed good guts when winning her maiden over this distance on the turf. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. If suited to the polytrack, she should be hard to peg back.
JADE’S CABERNEIGH is a winner of her last two starts. Craig Zackey has got the best out of her without the use of the crop. She is clearly in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick
