The PGA Tour makes a new stop this week when it heads to Mexico and the Norman Signature Course at Vidanta Vallarta. We have selected 4 players to take on the bookmakers.
The Mexican Open has been around for many years and has been played at various courses, but this is the first time that it is an official PGA Tour event.
The Greg Norman designed Signature course plays to a par 71 and is situated alongside the Pacific Ocean. It has never hosted a Mexico Open. We obviously have very little in the way of course form to go on, but there doesn’t appear to be much rough and in those situations it is normally the long drivers that prosper.
The field itself is not the strongest, but it is headed up by Jon Rahm who is currently priced at 5/1. While Rahm is constantly at the top of the betting boards his recent form doesn’t inspire confidence and I will be looking to beat him this week. There is a big gap in the betting down to the trio of Tony Finau, Abraham Ancer and Gary Woodland all priced at 22/1 with 30/1 and better the balance.

SELECTIONS:
Gary Woodland each way at 22/1
Woodland is my pick amongst the favourites due to his length off the tee as well as the fact that he has had two Top 5’s and a Top 10 in his last 6 starts. His game seems to be coming to hand and in a weakish field he can deliver the win.
Cameron Champ each way at 55/1
Champ put some indifferent form behind him when he finished Top 10 in his last start which was the US Masters. He has already proven himself capable of winning on Tour and given his length off the tee I am more than happy to be taking anything above 40/1 on him this week.
Taylor Moore each way at 60/1
Moore had looked in poor form up until last week when he finished in the top 5 when paired with Matthew NeSmith. I must confess to not knowing a lot about him and am basing this pick purely on the fact that he is in form.
Brian Stuard each way at 140/1
I struggled for my final selection and I settled on Stuard who won’t do much damage to my bank balance at this price. Stuard has been putting in some consistent performances with a pair of Top 10’s, a Top 20 and two Top 25’s in his last 8 starts. It is hardly the sort of form to get excited about, but in a relatively weak field I am happy to have him completing my 4-ball.
