Race 3: TWICE A DANCER(6)
Jockey: Smanga KHUMALO - Trainer: Joey RAMSDEN

TWICE A DANCER appears a smart type in the making and he relished the step-up to the mile to win his maiden going away on the Highveld five weeks ago. The Twice Over colt had some traffic issues that day but his recovery was super-impressive and gave every indication that he will continue to improve with experience. The Tarry inmate rises sharply in class but should enjoy this extra ground and could prove equal to the task at hand.

Race 4: SPRING BREEZE(10)
Jockey: Piere STRYDOM - Trainer: Michael AZZIE

This slight drop in distance should be ideal for the Azzie inmate SPRING BREEZE who tired late over seven furlongs on 'July Day' four weeks ago. The daughter of Querari was returning from a 13 week rest so may have also just needed the outing and she will be fitter now. She should be highly competitive from her midfield berth

Race 5: MERYL(11)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Dean KANNEMEYER

A top class field of juvenile fillies line-up for this Grade 1 contest where a couple of unbeaten records are on the line. That isn't the case for the top selection MERYL though, but the Kannemeyer inmate is searching for a hat-trick of victories after her two impressive back-to-back wins on either surface at this venue. She was particularly eye-catching when she produced a powerful late burst to beat some useful rivals in a minor feature over seven furlongs last time out & would have strengthened during the short break. The mile will suit her perfectly and she races from off the speed so her poor draw isn't a major concern.

Race 6: MONKS HOOD(9)
Jockey: Anthony DELPECH - Trainer: Alistair GORDON

MONKS HOOD is potentially a top sort in the making and though he lost his unbeaten record recently, he produced an eye-catching performance over seven furlongs on this course despite the circumstances. His wily old conditioner's move to skip the 'July Day' feature could prove a masterstroke as the Querari colt would have strengthened and should love every bit of this step-up to the mile. He has a strong finish and can pull this off despite his poor barrier position.

Race 7: eLAN GOLD CUP 2017

Magic Tips Preview

The imported gelding KINAAN has peaked at the right time and will be looking to finish two better than his 3rd in last year's running of this event. The four-year old ran on well behind HERMOSO MUNDO and CAPTAIN SPLENDID in that controversial last event over 3000m on 'July Day'. He faces the former on 2kgs better terms.

Of course the latter pairing were involved in that titanic tussle recently and the verdict eventually went the way of HERMOSO MUNDO albeit via the boardroom after CAPTAIN SPLENDID shifted his ground badly in the latter stages. Interestingly, the promoted winner was upped a hefty six pounds but the Gauteng visitor is unbeaten since joining this yard and still has claims on his peak showing.

ROYAL BADGE has had the ideal preparation coming into this event and could be a lively threat if handling the two miles. He weakened in his only effort over this distance earlier this year but his recent efforts have indicated that he will enjoy this extra ground. Interestingly, his top jockey has forgone his stable engagements to partner this four-year old gelding.

The proven stayer and top weight KRAMBAMBULI had a brilliant last performance in the 'July' but still faces a stiff test.

VALUE BET (EACH WAY) FOR TODAY

Race 9: WARFARER(5)
Jockey: Alec FORBES - Trainer: Lezeanne FORBES

There should be a hot gallop in this highly competitive handicap on the polytrack where the three-year olds could have a decent say. The local WARFARER has had an excellent first season particularly on this track and he is weighted to finish much closer to recent conquerors SUN ON AFRICA and NEW FORT. He will enjoy the likely solid speed and represents decent each/way value
