RACE 1
This is the first juvenile race of the season in the Eastern Cape and the betting market will be the best guide. EAT PREY LOVE is a daughter of New Predator from the Alan Greeff stable with Richard Fourie in the saddle. Her mother, Temple Grafin was a four-time winner including a Grade 1 victory. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note.
ANUSCHKA’S WORLD is a son of One World from the Gavin Smith stable with Luyolo Mxothwa booked to ride. He is related to three-time winner Action Stations. If not in need of this outing, he should give a good account of himself.
MAGICAL RIVER hails from the Kelly Mitchley stable and she is a daughter of Querari. Muzi Yeni takes the ride and she can show.
RACE 2
JET BUND ran a positive race in his local debut over this distance on the Polytrack. He raced from a handy position, but found one too good in the form of Swiftwinged. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He is better suited to the turf and can go one better here.
CAPTAIN EFFICIENT has caught the eye in his last two starts over 1200m. The blinkers and tongue-tie seem to have done the trick. The obvious concern is his wide barrier position but with luck in running, he should pose a threat.
US OPEN should have finished closer last time as the pilot dropped his reins. He finished third in his only attempt over this distance. Chase Maujean is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.
RACE 3
METAR is better than her last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Durbanville. She finished second in her three starts prior to that outing. The daughter of Soft Falling Rain is having her first run for Gavin Smith. She meets the right field and if suited to this course, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
TRIED AND TRUE rallied late when second over this distance on the Polytrack last time. She jumps from a good draw of three and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
FOR ALL WE KNOW has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She raced from a handy position over this C&D last time and stayed on at the business end. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She must be included in all bets.
RACE 4
ROSE OF BAYEUX is a winner of her last three starts. She ran on well to win her last outing over this C&D. She has won four times, finished second twice and third twice from ten starts over this C&D. She will strip a fitter horse and can win again.
PINNACLE ran a decent race when third over 1600m on the Polytrack last time. She finished 6.5 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.
JOY AND PEACE made her way to the Western Cape last time. She was an easy winner of her penultimate run over this distance on the Polytrack. She jumps from a good draw of two and cannot be ignored.
Race 5
SLINGS AND ARROWS finished 0.5 lengths behind DAWN OF A NEW ERA last time. He is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back. DAWN OF A NEW ERA has some good recent form lines to his credit. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.
THUNDER MASTER ran on powerfully to win his last start over 1200m on the Polytrack. Two of his four career victories have come over this distance. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from the widest draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 6
MOHANDAS finished 1.25 lengths behind THEN IN FOCUS last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He does have an awkward draw of nine to overcome but he is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.
THEN IN FOCUS ran on well to win his last start over 2200m on the polytrack. If getting off to a clean start, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
LIGHT WITHOUT took on much stronger in the Listed Jonsson Workwear Algoa Cup last time. He will strip much fitter. He takes a drop-in class and can return to best form.
RACE 7
VEGAS GOLD showed good speed when winning his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He returns from a well-deserved 10-week break. Apprentice Kobeli Lihaba takes the 4kgs off his back and if not in need of the run, he may be hard to peg back.
THE WINTER LAKE has fair recent form lines to his credit. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in his last outing has come out and won since. He tries the blinkers for the first time which should sharpen him up over the minimum distance.
POMODORO MAGIC has some good recent form lines to her name. She showed pace over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish fourth. She gets the services of Chase Maujean once again and should give the males a run for their money.
RACE 8
COASTAL PATH was a tad disappointing in his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He has won twice from three starts over this C&D. If putting his best foot forward, he should return to winning ways.
TOUREIRO has good recent form lines to his credit. It must be noted that multiple horses from his last form line have come out and won since. He finished 0.05 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
WE ALL CHOMIES stayed on when fourth over 1000m on the Polytrack last time. He won a game race in his penultimate start over 1300m. He is in a good space and must be included in all bets
