Race 1

SEA OF TEARS is one of the better bets on today’s card. She showed good pace over 1000m on the turf last time, but was outrun late by Rose Velvet. Her penultimate run when finishing second on this course was encouraging. She gets the services of Rachel Venniker who will take 1.5kgs off her back and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.

BROADWAY GIRL produced two decent efforts before given a 14-week break. She would have strengthened up during her time off the track. The daughter of Master Of My Fate tries the Polytrack and if not in need of the run, she should be one of the leading contenders.

ACT OF MERCY stayed on when finishing fourth over 1400m on this course last time. The drop to 1100m should not pose a concern as she finished third in her only attempt over this distance. The daughter of Coup De Grace makes her stable debut and she can run into the placings.

Race 2

PURE MAVERICK ran a good race when finishing second over 1600m on the turf last time. He lost a length at the start, but stayed on nicely at the finish. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

FAST LOVE has decent recent form lines to his credit. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He won his only attempt over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

IRON WILL is having his first run for the Alyson Wright stable. He has been disappointing in his last two starts after showing promise earlier in his career. If not in need of this outing, he is capable of finishing in the first three.

Race 3

CHOPSTICKS has decent consistent form lines to her credit. She stayed on when finishing third over 1160m at Turffontein last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She has finished second twice from as many starts over this distance. The Alec Laird yard is in fine form and she may be rewarded for consistency.

HALLERBOS showed good pace over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time, but found one too good in the form of Imposing. He will strip a much fitter horse and may be the first male past the post.

CAPTAIN MARVEL has shown improvement in her last two starts on this course. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 1400m and she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

DAWN MISSION has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He raced from a handy position over 1750m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time, but found one too good in the form of Boundless Bash. The son of Silvano finished second in his only attempt over this distance. He meets the right field today and can shed his maiden tag.

MONSIEUR CHEVELLE has fair recent form lines to his credit. He gets the services of Rachel Venniker who will take 1.5kgs off his back. From pole position, he should throw out a challenge to the top choice.

IZUIZORIZUAINT ran a fair race against winners over 1600m on this course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won a Grade 2 since. The son of Querari is back in Maiden Company and he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 5

ELECTRIC SURGE was her own worst enemy in the Grade 2 Gold Bracelet last time as she overraced in the early stages. She was not disgraced when finishing fifth in the Grade 3 Gold Vase in her penultimate effort. The daughter of Querari takes a drop in class and if Calvin Habib is able to switch her off early, she should return to winning ways.

TOP ME UP HOLLY should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the closing stages. She has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. The daughter of Master Of My Fate will be at peak fitness and she merits healthy respect.

OH SO SQUISHY had her own way in front over this C&D last time and won with a ton in hand. She takes on slightly stronger, but is in a good space and must be included in all bets.

Race 6

MASTERS BEAUTY was in need of her comeback run over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. Her form prior to the break was good. Two of her three career victories have come on this course. She gets the blinkers fitted this afternoon and will strip much fitter. She takes a drop in class and can notch up her fourth career victory.

UMVOTI was given a peach of a ride when winning on debut over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Ideal World takes on stronger, but she could be anything and may be up to the task at hand.

ANGEL’S WISH has improved in her last two starts on the Vaal Classic course. She has dropped to a competitive rating and if jumping on terms, she should give a good account of herself.

Race 7

CLEAN SLATE set the pace over 1400m last time, but was caught late by stable companion Queue Wing. He won his maiden over this C&D, three runs ago. The son of Time Thief takes a drop in class and from pole position, may be hard to peg back.

TRACK COMMANDER was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over this C&D. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory and against a similar field, he can follow up.

HIGH MOON stayed on strongly when finishing second over this distance at Turffontein last time. He carries top weight of 61.5kgs, but is in a good space and merits obvious inclusion. He is carded to race on 19 August 2022 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 8

LIFE GOES ON ran a decent race when finishing fourth over 1160m at Turffontein last time. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The 5yo gelding has won twice from three starts over this C&D. He takes a drop in class and if all went well with his travels, he can return to winning ways.

LESLIES PATHTOFAME was squeezed leaving the starting stalls last time, but finished his race off strongly. Four of his six career victories have come over this C&D. With a bit of luck in running, he should be competitive.

IMITATION GAME’S last two starts have been fair. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. From his midfield draw, he will be staying on in the run down to the line
