Race 1

ICE KINGDOM’S last two starts on the turf track have been decent. He was unlucky last time as the saddle was reported to have slipped in running. The son of What A Winter finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. He has cracked a good draw of three and in this line-up, he can shed his maiden tag.

HUNTERS ARROW may not have seen out the 1400m in his last start on the turf. His penultimate run when finishing fourth over this distance was encouraging. It is encouraging that Richard Fourie retains the ride and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

MAJESTIC REIGN is an unraced son of Time Thief from the Peter Muscutt stable with Tristan Godden in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Mr Pigalle and Pomodoro’s Jet. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers in this contest.

Race 2

MAC HARDY produced an eye-catching debut effort over this C&D, seven weeks ago. He raced from a handy position and the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Vercingetorix would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be the horse to beat.

MOON HARVEST finished 0.35 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around. Richard Fourie takes the ride from pole position and he may be able to get the best out of him.

PATH TO FREEDOM’S last two starts on the turf over 1000m have been fair. The son of Pathfork is a progressive type and should enjoy the extra furlong on offer. The Garth Puller stable is in fine form and he should be competitive.

Race 3

WHISPERING GREEN is still a maiden after 18 starts, but has some decent recent form lines to her credit. She finished 0.8 lengths behind ROYAL OASIS in her penultimate start. She is 5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She carries a light mass of 51.5kgs and may be the one to side with.

STEALTH ATTACK stayed on at the finish over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Bevies Delight. The daughter of Wylie Hall is progressive and is one of the leading contenders.

MISS DORA showed very good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. She carries a nice mass of 56.5kgs and if confirming her recent improvement, she should be competitive.

Race 4

MCCARTNEY was a beaten odds-on favourite in his last start over 1200m on this course. He raced from a handy position and rallied late when second behind Geronimo. The son of Trippi will be at home over the 1400m and he should strip a much fitter horse. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and the combination can go one better.

DOUBLE SILVER’S last two starts have been good. He stayed on nicely at the finish when third over 1200m on this course. He will enjoy the return to 1400m and is one of the leading contenders.

ROYAL POINT’S last two starts have been fair. He may not have seen out the 1700m last time as he lacked extra in the latter stages. The son of William Longsword jumps from pole position and he can place in this line-up.

Race 5

DIANI followed up his maiden win with a hard-fought victory over this distance on the turf. He received the minimum two-pound penalty for that victory. S’manga Khumalo has only this ride booked for the day. He takes a drop in class and can notch up the hat-trick.

HEAD GARDENER has improved since returning to KZN. Despite overracing in the early stages of his last start over this C&D, the manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He meets a similar type of field today and is one of the leading lights.

GET CARTER was a shock winner over 1200m, last week. He was settled near the rear of the field and got up where it matters most. The pacifiers have done the trick and if this run has not come too soon, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 6

FIERY DUKE set the pace in his last start over this distance on the turf, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Diani. He has won twice and finished third once from five starts over this C&D. The son of Duke Of Marmalade is having his peak run today and from pole position, he can notch up his third career victory.

JOSHUA HOTSNAKE finished 0.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. Richard Fourie takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most. MOVIE MAGIC finished 0.7 lengths behind

HIGH VELOCITY last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

Race 7

METALLIC GOLD’S last three starts have been good. He stayed on nicely when third over 1400m on this course last time. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from seven starts over this distance. Ashton Arries retains the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.

JUSTAGUYTHING has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He raced wide around the turn last time, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. It must be noted that the horse that finished second has come out and won since. The 6yo gelding merits healthy respect.

PURPLE OPERATOR stayed on nicely when second over this C&D last time. He jumps from pole position and if repeating that effort, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 8

CORNER CRUSADE did not have luck in running in her last start over this C&D. She clipped heels at the 800m mark and had no clear run up the straight. She has won once, finished second four times and third once from seven starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie takes the ride and with a bit of luck in running, she can return to winning ways.

PRINCESS TEA set the pace in her last start over this C&D, but was outrun late by Toto. She is likely to adopt the same tactics from her awkward draw of eight and may be hard to peg back.

RETAIL THERAPY was unlucky in her last start over this distance on the turf as she had to be switched at the 250m mark. She was also reported to have choked up that day. It must be noted that the form has been franked. She gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa which will help her cause
