Race 1
VASILIKOS showed good pace when winning his maiden over 1000m on this course, five weeks ago. He should have no issues with the rise to 1200m. He jumps from a good draw of two and can follow up.
POTENTE showed good improvement when finishing second in his first run as a gelding. He was reported to be lame on his left fore leg that day. The son of Var should be at home over 1200m and with a bit of luck from barrier ten, he should pose a massive threat to the top choice.
UNITED PRINCE ran a decent race on debut over 1000m at Turffontein. He returns from a 19-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 2
WITHOUT EQUAL is lightly raced with decent form to his credit. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in the closing stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He meets the right field this afternoon and if keeping on a straight line, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
UNCLE GEORGE showed very good improvement when finishing third over this distance on the Polytrack last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He does have a wide draw of twelve to contend with, but gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.
BUSTER KEATON returns from a lengthy 33-week break. His last start over 1400m at Kenilworth was fair. The well-bred son of Silvano is a progressive type and if not in need of the run, he should give a good account of himself.
Race 3
LITTLEMARYSUNSHINE is a progressive type who was super-impressive when winning her maiden over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Silvano looks to have ability and she is the horse to beat.
CANADIAN SUMMER got up where it matters most when winning her maiden over 1200m on this course. The daughter of Oratorio will love the step up to 1400m. If Jason Gates is able to keep her on a straight line, she should be one of the leading contenders.
ONLY HEARTS showed good guts when winning her maiden over this C&D, four weeks ago. The daughter of Querari gets the services of S’manga Khumalo and she should be in the shake-up.
Race 4
This is a competitive Listed Gatecrasher Stakes field. COUSIN CASEY took the lead at the 450m mark in his last start at Hollywoodbets Scottsville and kept finding to keep all challengers at bay. The progressive son of Vercingetorix is above average and he will strip a much fitter horse. Grant van Niekerk takes the ride and he can follow up.
UNION SQUARE stayed on nicely at the finish when second in the Grade 2 SA Nursery last time. The son of Rafeef will be at home over 1400m. If not too green around the turn, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
READY OR NOT produced an eye-catching debut effort over 1600m on this course. Despite racing wide around the turn, he ran on well to finish third. The son of Rafeef would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be competitive.
Race 5
MOUNT ANDERSON stayed on strongly when finishing second behind Do It Again in the Grade 2 WSB 1900 last time. He won his penultimate effort in the Listed Sledgehammer over this C&D. He is in a good space and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he can notch up his sixth career victory.
WARRIOR was unlucky last time as he had to be switched at the 300m mark. He returns from a 15-week break which may have done him the world of good. This is a prep run for bigger races this season, but he has the class to be competitive.
FIREALLEY won a good race over a distance short of his best last time. He has won once and finished third once from three starts over this distance. With a bit of luck from his wide draw of twelve, he should go close to winning.
Race 6
OSCAR’S WINNER has found a new lease on life since returning from a lengthy 43-week break. Her penultimate victory when winning over 1400m at Kenilworth was super-impressive. She followed that up with an equally impressive victory over 1400m at Durbanville. The daughter of Querari has shown that she has a good turn of foot. She does face her toughest test to date, but she has quality about her. From her good draw of four, she is capable of notching up her fourth career victory.
SUPREME QUEST moved up well in the Grade 2 WSB Fillies Guineas last time, but was outrun late by Under Your Spell. She won the Grade 3 Umzimkhulu Stakes over this C&D in style. She always gives of her best and merits healthy respect.
ZARINA had every chance in the Grade 1, Empress Club Stakes, last time, but did not go on with her effort. She loves racing over 1400m with a record of two wins and two third-place finishes from five starts. She is the stable elect with Aldo Domeyer up and should go close.
Race 7
JET DARK was settled at the rear of the field in the Grade 2 Drill Hall Stakes last time and the manner in which he finished off his race was encouraging. He would have come on from the run and his second run after a rest is always his best effort. He does have an awkward draw of nine, but is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field. The son of Trippi loves the mile and is the horse to beat. Pace should not be a concern as stablemate CROWN TOWERS is a known frontrunner.
LINEBACKER was in need of his comeback run and he never travelled in the race. He won the Grade 2 WSB Guineas over this C&D, last year. The classy son of Captain Of All would have come on from his last run and on best form shown, he should be competitive.
SUPREME WARRIOR had to work hard to get to the front in the Grade 2 WSB Guineas last time. He looked a winner in the straight but was caught in the shadow of the post by Zapatillas. He does take on older rivals, but has class and merits respect.
Race 8
MASTER ARCHIE was an easy winner of the Grade 1 Computaform Sprint last time. He raced from just off the pace, quickened up well and drew clear of the opposition. It must be noted that Alesian Chief who finished fourth that day has come out and won a Grade 1 since. If suited to this track, he should be too good for this field. AMBIORIX finished 0.7 lengths behind
COIN SPINNER last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He races well this time of the year and may be hard to peg back.
ISIVUNGUVUNGU was ultra-impressive when winning the Listed In Full Flight Handicap last time. The son of What A Winter faces a tough test at the weights, but he is loaded with ability and should be right there at the finish.
Race 9
HOLD MY HAND is the best bet on the programme. She ran on powerfully when finishing second over 1200m on this course, on debut. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Gold Standard would have gained from the experience and in this type of field, she should take a power of beating. EDVIGE was squeezed leaving the starting stalls last time, but stayed on to finish fourth. She is back on the turf and jumps from a good draw of four. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
DEVILS AND DUST is better than her last start as she raced wide around the turn. Her debut effort when finishing fourth over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville was encouraging. The daughter of Rafeef has plenty of scope and she cannot be left out
