Race 1

GENTLEMAN’S WAGER was running on nicely when second in the Listed Compendium Insurance Handicap, four weeks ago. Four of his nine career victories have come on this course. He meets a similar type of field today and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he can return to winning ways.

SILVANO’S TIMER finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the wire. He is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

REUNION finished 0.75 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. The pair meet on the same weight terms and he may have to settle for the same result. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe.

Race 2

GOBSMACKED is the best bet on the programme. She has been super-impressive in both her victories to date. She showed good speed over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time, found another kick and was geared down in the latter stages. The daughter of Querari clearly has ability and if suited to this course, she should keep her unbeaten record intact.

RIDE ON should have finished closer to the winner in the Grade 2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper last time as she had to be switched at the 300m mark. She is having her peak run today and should have no issues with the drop to 1200m. With a bit of luck in running, she should pose a threat.

ONLY HEARTS finished 0.2 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish. She finished second in her only attempt over this distance.

Race 3

MERCANTOUR was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. He is unbeaten from two starts over this trip. The son of Var has class about him and from his handy draw of five, he can notch up his fourth career victory.

RIDGERUNNER finished 0.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result. He shows good speed in his races and may be hard to peg back.

FORMAGEAR ran a fair race in the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He was an easy winner on debut over this C&D. Craig Zackey steps back into the saddle and from his good draw of four, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 4

TIME FO ORCHIDS caught the eye when running on to finish third behind AMEENA in the Grade 2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper. The daughter of Time Thief will be at home over the mile. She jumps from a good draw of three and can turn the form around.

AMEENA won a good race in the race referred to above. The concern for this race is that she has to overcome the widest draw of fourteen. However, Richard Fourie retains the ride and he should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

NONE OTHER was an easy winner of her last start over 1400m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She takes on stronger, but she has plenty of class about her and merits obvious inclusion.

Race 5

COUSIN CASEY was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 2 Durban Golden Horseshoe last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will have no issues with the rise to the mile. He has another awkward draw to contend with, but Grant van Niekerk knows him well and the combination can win again.

ROYAL VICTORY finished 0.9 lengths behind the top choice last time. The son of Pathfork won his maiden in fine style over this C&D in his penultimate run. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

PROPHET used his gate speed to overcome draw thirteen last time and he stayed on well to finish third. The son of Querari is bred to enjoy the rise to 1600m and from his good draw of four, he must be included in all bets.

Race 6

WILLIAM ROBERTSON finished 1.75 lengths behind VAL D’ORCIA last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He won his previous two starts under S’manga Khumalo with ease. If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he may be the one to beat.

MASTER ARCHIE finished 3.9 lengths behind the top choice in his first run on this course. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. He would have come on from the outing and is one of the leading contenders.

CAPTAIN’S RANSOM was a tad disappointing in the Grade 1 Brentford FC Garden Province Stakes last time. Her victory in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint was impressive. She is unbeaten from two starts over this distance and will give the males a run for their money.

Race 7

NEBRAAS should have won his last start over 2400m at Turffontein as he was too far back turning for home. He won his three previous starts well under jockey Richard Fourie. He is unbeaten from two starts on this course and from two starts over this distance. He jumps from a good draw of four and with Richard Fourie back in the saddle, he should defend his title.

BLACK THORN won a good race in the Grade 3 DStv Gold Vase last time. He finished 0.5 lengths behind the top choice, three runs ago. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

ARAGOSTA is better than his last start in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. The manner in which he won the Grade 1 WSB SA Derby suggests that he stays well and should have no issues with the rise to 3200m. If his last run has not taken too much out of him, he should give his older rivals a run for their money.

Race 8

JET DARK ran on strongly when finishing second to Sparkling Water in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. With CROWN TOWERS in this race, there is likely to be a genuine pace which will suit the son of Trippi. He won this race last year and has a good chance of retaining his title.

KOMMETDIEDING ran a fair race in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. He finished 1.1 lengths behind the top choice that day. He won his only attempt over this distance and from his handy draw of four, merits healthy respect.

LINEBACKER is much better than his effort in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. He had to be eased at the start and was reported to be cut into. His penultimate run in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge was eye-catching. On best form shown, he should be competitive.

Race 9

MARINA ran a good race when finishing second in the Grade 1 Brentford FC Garden Province Stakes last time. She was carried outwards at the 1400m mark that day and stayed on in the straight. She steps up to the 2000m and with a bit of luck in running, should be too good for this field.

SPRINKLES ran on when third in the Grade 1 Woolavington 2000 last time. The blinkers seem to have done the trick on the daughter of Elusive Fort. She does have a wide draw to contend with, but is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

PINK TOURMALINE was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 2 Track And Ball Oaks last time. She has won three times and finished third once from as many starts over this distance. She jumps from a midfield draw of six and merits obvious inclusion.

Race 10

AFTER THE RAIN is one of the better bets on today’s card. He showed good speed over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time and stayed on to finish fourth. He is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe. Keagan de Melo steps back into the saddle and from his good draw of three, he should take a power of beating.

PRAY FOR RAIN finished 0.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.

ISIVUNGUVUNGU didn’t settle in his last start over 1200m on the turf. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. He runs well for jockey Richard Fourie and merits healthy respect
