Race 1

BUSTER KEATON ran a fair race in his first start in KZN over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He raced from just off the pace, but showed signs of needing the run as he lacked a finish in the closing stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He should have no issues with the drop to 1000m and in this type of field, he may be the one to beat.

SMITH AND WESSON showed good pace in his last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Stanley Park. He is having his first run for the Paul Matchett stable. Richard Fourie takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

THE PROPRIETOR is an unraced son of Trippi from the Garth Puller yard with Athandiwe Mgudlwa in the saddle. He is related to four-time winner T’Challa. If not too green, he should give a good account of himself. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

Race 2

DONALD MCDONALD stayed on when fourth over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. He has won once and finished second once from four starts on this course. He will enjoy the return to 1800m and in this type of field, he can return to winning ways.

LOVE BOMB has had excuses in her last two starts. The daughter of Oratorio tries the 1800m for the first time. Her last victory came under Sean Veale and with just 54kgs, she should pose a threat.

ADMIRE ME ran a fair race in her last start over 1600m on this course. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the extra furlong on offer. The daughter of Capetown Noir will be cherry-ripe and she can finish in the first three.

Race 3

SOUL CAPTAIN ran a fair race in his comeback run over 1600m on the Polytrack last time. The manner in which he races suggests that he will be at home over this distance. The son of Master Of My Fate has his first run on the turf and from his good draw of four, he can shed his maiden tag.

ATLANTIC CITY is still a maiden after 15 starts, but has good recent form lines to his credit. He has finished second once and third once from three starts over this distance. Calvin Habib retains the ride and he is one of the leading contenders.

PIRATE PRINCE has improved in his last two starts under Rachel Venniker. He returns to the turf and in this line-up, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 4

REEFWAY caught the eye on debut over 1000m on this course. She lost a length leaving the starting stalls, raced green but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging. She returns from a 19-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Rafeef will love the extra furlong on offer and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

SEA OF TEARS has finished second in her last three starts. She showed good pace over 1100m last time, but found one too good in the form of Bonne Bouche. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She jumps from a good draw of two and may be hard to peg back.

I’VE GOT WINGS has fair recent form lines to her name. She is back against her own sex and S’manga Khumalo may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Race 5

CAPTAIN FONTANE was running on well when second over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. He won his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Captain Al will strip a much fitter horse and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should go one better.

DANILO DANILOVITCH showed good pace when winning his last start over 1000m on the Polytrack. He received a four-pound penalty for that victory. The son of What A Winter is in a good space and can follow up.

TEMPTING FATE was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1000m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He returns from a 14-week break, during which time he was gelded. He has finished second twice and third once from as many starts over this C&D. If not in need of the run, he should be competitive.

Race 6

MAXIUMUS changed his tactics when winning his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He set the pace, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is back on the turf and against a similar type of field, he should notch up his fifth career victory.

RED SOLE finished 2.7 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. He is having his second run after a rest and will strip much fitter.

QUEUE WING has very good consistent form lines to his name. He has won twice and finished second twice from as many starts over this distance. He always gives of his best and if keeping on a straight line, he should fight out the finish.

Race 7

DONQUERARI won a good race in his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He was settled at the rear of the field and ran on powerfully to get the better of Fast Love. He comes into this contest well weighted and he can follow up.

BOTZ was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may be involved in the fight to the finish.

WINTER AIR ran on well when second over this C&D last time. He finished 0.05 lengths behind LAKE COMO that day. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

Race 8

SHANTA’S PRIDE produced a promising debut effort over 1200m on the Polytrack. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of William Longsword would have gained from the experience and she should love the extra furlong on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should take a power of beating.

TROUBADIX stayed on when fourth in her last start over 1200m on this course. She steps back over the 1400m and if jumping on terms, she should be one of the leading contenders.

GLOBAL SONGSTRESS showed good improvement in her last start over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She drops to the 1400m and the blinkers will sharpen her up. She is a progressive type and can finish in the placings
