Race 1

WINTER JOURNEY’S last two starts on this course have been decent. She stayed on nicely at the finish last time but found one too good in the form of a first timer, Sweet Symphony. The daughter of What A Winter will enjoy the step back up in distance and from her good draw of two, may be the one to beat.

KINGSMEADS KRYSTL has taken on winners in each of her outings to date. Her first two career efforts were encouraging. The daughter of Visionaire takes on Maiden Company for the first time and if jumping on terms, she should be one of the leading contenders.

GREATCLUBQUEEN showed good improvement in her last start over 1000m on the Polytrack. She should have finished closer that day as she was awkwardly placed at the 150m mark. She will love the extra furlong on offer and should have more to come.

Race 2

This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The narrow first selection is CLAUDINA from the MJ Odendaal stable. She has shown good improvement in each of her outings to date. The daughter of Wylie Hall tries the 2000m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she may be the one to beat.

NOBLE NOVA is still a maiden after 13 runs, but her last two outings have been decent. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride this afternoon and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

DUQUESNE WHISTLE is much better than her last start suggests. Her two efforts prior to that outing were encouraging. She is carded to race on 13 September 2021 and her progress in that race will need to be followed.

Race 3

CASHEW showed very good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She raced from a handy position, but found one too good in the form of Hot Strike. The daughter of Jay Peg has to overcome the widest draw today, but she gets the services of Warren Kennedy who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

SHIELD MAIDEN’S last two starts have been decent. She tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should pose a massive threat.

INDOMAVEL found the 1200m on the sharp side last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has finished second twice from as many starts over this distance. From her good of four, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 4

MIDNIGHT CALLER hails from the visiting Weiho Marwing stable. He set the pace in his last start over this distance at Turffontein and kept finding to hold all challengers at bay. He is in a good space and if suited to the track, he can notch up his third career victory.

NAVAL SECRET ran a fair race in his last start over this distance on the Polytrack. He jumps from a much better barrier position this afternoon and will be staying on strongly at the business end.

PINK FLOYD showed good signs of a form return over 1200m on this course. He has won once, finished second four times and third twice from 16 starts on this course. He jumps from pole position and must be included in all bets.

Race 5

KEEP THE LIGHTS ON ran a good race when finishing third in the Listed Umngeni Handicap against males last time. She has won her only attempt over this distance. The daughter of Visionaire is the best-weighted runner in this contest and should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

VIVID JET’S last two starts can be ignored. She returns from a 23-week break, which may have done her the world of good. If not in need of the run, she should return to best form.

FINDING FREEDOM fought hard for her maiden victory over 1200m on the Polytrack. The daughter of Elusive Fort takes a rise in class, but she is lightly raced and looks to have scope. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride which is a big plus

Race 6

RIVER DOON produced a promising comeback run after returning from a 42-week break. She showed good pace that day, hung but the manner in which she stayed on at the business end was encouraging. The daughter of Philanthropist will love the step up to the mile and should strip much fitter. From her good draw of three, she may be the one to side with.

ROHA hails from the visiting Paul Peter stable. She stayed on at the finish over this distance last time, but found one too good in the form of the experienced Rouge Allure. Anton Marcus takes the ride and if all went well with her travels, she should be one of the leading contenders.

MARIA COROLINA was an easy winner of her last start over this C&D in a small field. She takes a slight rise in class, but is in a good space and can follow up.

Race 7

CAPOEIRA’S last two starts before the 11-week break were decent. He finished 2 lengths behind NATIVE TONGUE last time and is 4.5kgs better off at the weights. That should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from seven starts over this distance. Richard Fourie takes the ride and the pair will be mowing down the frontrunners.

TRISTFUL ran a fair race when finishing fifth in the Grade 1 Champions Cup last time. The blinkers may be what the 6yo gelding needs and if putting his best foot forward, he should run a big race.

NATIVE TONGUE has top consistent form lines to his credit. He was running on too late when finishing second in the Listed Darley Arabian last time. He jumps from a better barrier position today and merits healthy respect.

Race 8

PRINCESS ANASTASIA has produced two decent efforts since her 11-week break. She raced from a handy position last time and stayed on nicely to finish third behind Maria Corolina. The daughter of Silvano gets a change of headgear once again and should be cherry-ripe. The Dennis Drier stable is in form and she can return to winning ways.

SILVER MARIA has good consistent form lines to her credit. She challenged strongly last time but was outrun in the latter stages. She should love the 2000m and may be rewarded for consistency.

TWICETHEQUALITY should have finished closer in her stable debut as she had to be switched at the 450m mark. The daughter of Twice Over will be at home over the 2000m and with some luck in running, she should go close
