Race 1

LION RAMPART made the expected natural improvement to win his second start over 1000m in the Non-Black Type HeartFM Commonwealth Plate. He showed good pace and despite racing green, he won with a ton in hand. The son of One World is a progressive type and should have no issues with the step up to 1100m. He is the horse to beat with Richard Fourie retaining the ride.

ROMAN AGENT won a good race in the Non-Black Type Trippi Stakes last time. He produced a strong finish to get the better of COLD SHINE. He finished 1.75 lengths behind LION RAMPART on debut. He will love the extra 100m on offer and is one of the leading contenders.

COLD SHINE produced an eye-catching debut run over 1000m behind the second selection. The son of Lancaster Bomber would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should be competitive.

Race 2

HANDSOME PRINCE is one of the better bets on the programme. He won a good race at the second time of asking over 1000m on this course. The son of Querari looks to be a nice horse in the making. He should have no issues with the rise to 1200m and will be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.

TALK TO THE MASTER finished 1.5 lengths behind the top selection on debut. He understandably raced green, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Master Of My Fate would have come on from the run and should love the rise to 1200m. He may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

MASTER CASPER was in need of his debut effort in the Non-Black Type HeartFM Commonwealth Plate. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He would have come on from the run and should make the natural progression.

Race 3

CALL TO UNITE followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over this C&D. He should have won that day as he was held up for a run at the 300m mark. The son of Vercingetorix is versatile and he has class about him. With luck in running, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

GREEN WITH ENVY was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Cape Guineas. He received a bump leaving the start, but stayed on well at the finish. The son of Gimmethegreenlight will love the rise to 1800m and he merits healthy respect.

HAT’S PRIDE finished 2.25 lengths behind the second choice in the race referred to above. His form prior to that outing was consistent. He tries the 1800m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

This is a competitive Cape A Stakes field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is QUASIFORSURE from the Peter Muscutt stable. He was doing his best work at the finish when fourth behind Cosmic Highway last time. He has won four times and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. International jockey Daniel Muscutt rides for his father and the combination will be mowing down the frontrunners.

AT MY COMMAND challenged strongly in the Grade 2 Anthonij Rupert Wine Premier Trophy last time, but found one too good in the form of Mucho Dinero. He has won twice and finished second once from four starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

SILVER OPERATOR won a game race in his last start over this C&D. Five of his seven career victories have come over this C&D. He does have a wide draw to overcome, but Bernard Fayd’Herbe knows him well and should give him all the necessary assistance.

Race 5

WINTER CLOUD finished 0.05 lengths behind SHANTASTIC in the Grade 2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. It is encouraging that Aldo Domeyer steps back into the saddle and if finding her best form, she should take a power of beating.

SHANTASTIC has produced two good runs this season. She stayed on when fourth in the Grade 2 Cartier Sceptre Stakes last time. The daughter of Rafeef is having her peak run today and she merits healthy respect.

HUNTING TRIP is better than her last two starts over 1000m. She has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. On best form shown, she may be the one to cause the upset.

Race 6

ISIVUNGUVUNGU produced a good seasonal debut in the Non-Black Type Winchester Sprint Cup last time. He finished 0.4 lengths behind THUNDERSTRUCK that day. The son of What A Winter would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. This race has been his main aim and he may be the one to side with.

THUNDERSTRUCK is a winner of his last two starts, the latest of which was in the Non-Black Type Winchester Sprint Cup. He was given a peach of a ride by Piere Strydom that day. The son of Rafeef is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.

SURJAY has good recent form lines to his credit. He finished third in the Grade 2 Cape Merchants in his last start over 1200m. He finished 0.75 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. The 5yo gelding always gives of his best and should earn another cheque for his patrons.

Race 7

PRINCESS CALLA finished 0.3 lengths behind BEACH BOMB in the Grade 1 Cartier Paddock Stakes. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has won twice, finished second three times and third twice from eight starts over this distance. The 6-year-old mare jumps from a handy draw of five and if everything goes according to plan, she should return to winning ways.

BEACH BOMB was given a peach of a ride to win the Grade 1 Cartier Paddock Stakes last time. She won her penultimate start over this C&D in the Grade 1 WSB Cape Fillies Guineas. With luck in running, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.

SAARTJIE won a game race in the Grade 3 SplashOut Victress Stakes last time. She has won once and finished second three times from as many starts over this distance. She is a filly with class and cannot be ignored.

Race 8

BAVARIAN BEAUTY won a good race in her seasonal debut over 1400m at Turffontein last time. She won the Grade 1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes over this distance in her penultimate run. The daughter of Querari is the class horse in this field and with luck in running, she should notch up the hat-trick.

READY TO CHARGE cost himself leaving the start in the Non-Black Type Winchester Sprint Cup last time. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he should have no issues with the rise to the mile. If getting away to a clean start, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

INFRARED found the 1400m on the sharp side in his last two starts. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he had to be steadied at the 300m mark. The son of Twice Over will be at home over the mile and he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 9

SEE IT AGAIN is the best bet on the programme. He moved up well in the Grade 1 L’Ormarins King’s Plate last time, but found one too good in the form of Charles Dickens. The son of Twice Over will love the step up to 2000m and he will be at peak fitness. He does have a wide draw to overcome, but gets the services of Piere Strydom who will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle. He is the best horse in the race and should take a power of beating.

BLESS MY STARS (Scratched)

ROYAL AUSSIE finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. If seeing out the 2000m, he should run into the placings.

Race 10

ARAGOSTA stayed on when fourth in the Grade 3 Glorious Goodwood Chairman’s Cup. He finished 0.8 lengths behind TRIPLE TIME that day and is 4.5kgs better off at the weights. That should be enough to turn the form around and from his good draw of three, he should be the one to beat.

NEBRAAS finished 0.5 lengths behind TRIPLE TIME in the race referred to above. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights and should also turn the tables. With luck in running, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

TRIPLE TIME stayed on when second over 2500m last time. The son of Twice Over should have no issues with the rise to 2800m. If keeping on a straight line, he should earn another cheque for his patrons.

Race 11

This is a competitive Maiden Plate to close the meeting and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is RIVERSTONE from the Gareth van Zyl stable. He should have finished closer to the winner in a ladies race over this C&D last time. The son of The United States is a progressive type and with Athandiwe Mgudlwa in the saddle, he can shed his maiden tag.

THE US OF A finished 0.05 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the wire.

IGUGULETHU stayed on when second over 1000m on this course last time. He will love the rise to 1200m and merits healthy respect
