Race 1

TOTALLY ROCKS was an easy winner in her last start over this C&D. She showed good pace, found another kick and drew clear of the opposition. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The tongue-tie has done the trick on the daughter of Canford Cliffs. She is the only winner in this contest and can follow up.

ACACIA’S BLOSSOM was not disgraced when finishing 3.85 lengths behind the winner on debut in a minor feature race. The daughter of Flower Alley would have gained from the experience and with S’manga Khumalo retaining the ride, she should make the natural improvement.

GET IN THE Q showed good improvement in her last start over 1000m on the polytrack. She stayed on at the finish that day and steps back up to the 1200m. Richard Fourie retains the ride and she can run into the placings.

Race 2

ACT NATURALLY produced a promising debut effort over this distance at Kenilworth. She returns from a lengthy 28-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Querari is well-related and if not in need of the run, she can shed her maiden tag in this line-up.

ROYAL OASIS showed good speed and fought hard when third over 1200m on this course last time. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Craig Zackey retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

GUEST GETORIXX has finished second in her last three starts. She raced from a handy position last time, but found one too good in the form of Beaded Gown. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Race 3

This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is NATASHA ROSTOV from the Duncan Howells yard. She ran a good race when third over 1750m on this course, four weeks ago. The daughter of Coup De Grace will love the extra furlong on offer and should strip much fitter. In this type of field, she can shed her maiden tag.

SEA CRUISE is still a maiden after 19 starts. Her penultimate run when finishing second over 1600m was encouraging. She gets the tongue-tie fitted for the first time and if the equipment has the desired effect, she should go close.

TOP TEN should have finished closer last time as she was carried outwards at the 400m mark. She returns from a 12-week break which may have done her the world of good. Her best form has been under 4kgs claiming apprentice Malesela Katjedi and she can place.

Race 4

LAUREL LANE won a good race in her last start over 1600m on this course. She took the lead at the 450m mark that day, quickened up well and kept finding to keep all challengers at bay. The daughter of Jay Peg tries the 1950m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she can follow up.

CONSOL QUEEN showed good signs of a form return in her last start with the blinkers fitted. She has finished second under apprentice Rachel Venniker in the past. If confirming her recent improvement, she should pose a threat.

ISLA MORADA’S last two starts have been fair. It must be noted that Rockie Reef has come out and won again since. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from seven starts over this C&D. She jumps from pole position and merits healthy respect with Richard Fourie in the saddle.

Race 5

ARUMUGAM has good consistent form lines to his credit. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as Athandiwe Mgudlwa dropped his crop in the closing stages. It must be noted that Airways Law has come out and won again since. He takes a drop in class and from pole position, he should be rewarded for consistency.

BAYVIEW EXPRESS ran a fair race in the Grade 3 Track And Ball Derby last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If repeating his penultimate effort, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

WILLOW’S WISH was running on too late when second over 1800m on the polytrack last time. He won his only attempt on this course. If not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should be competitive.

Race 6

GIMMIE A STAR ran on powerfully when winning his last start over this C&D. He has won twice and finished third once from four starts over this distance. The son of Gimmethegreenlight takes rise in class, but he may be ahead of the handicapper and should notch up his fourth career victory.

SPRING HIGH finished 1.65 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today. That is enough for the tables to be turned, but GIMMIE A STAR won easier than the margin suggests and he may still have the upper hand.

PLATINUM SKY hails from the visiting Sean Tarry stable. He should have finished much closer to the winner in his first run as a gelding as he had no luck in the closing stages. He will strip a much fitter horse and back in a Handicap, should run a big race.

Race 7

FAUSTINO showed good speed and stayed on when second over this C&D last time. He has won twice, finished second once and third once from six starts over this C&D. He meets a similar type of field today and may be hard to catch with 4kgs claiming apprentice Malesela Katjedi up.

WINTER FLIGHT finished 2.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair at the wire.

ALL OF ME notched up her 13th career victory in style over this distance at the Vaal. She raced from just off the pace, quickened up well and kept going to hold all challengers at bay. She is carded to race on 18 July 2022 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 8

CASA ROSADA’S last three starts have been good. She set the pace over 1200m on the polytrack last time and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. 4kgs claiming apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa steps back into the saddle and with 50.5kgs on her back, she can return to winning ways.

HER ROYAL MAJESTY has good consistent form lines to her credit. It must be noted that the horse that finished second in her last start has come out and won since. She shows good speed in her races and may be hard to peg back.

FLYING THE STAR stayed on when third over 1200m on the polytrack last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She has won once, finished second twice and third once from five starts over this C&D. Richard Fourie takes the ride and he may be able to get the best out of her
