Magic Tips Best Bets

Jockey: G Cheyne  - Trainer: A Greeff

SEATTLE MERMAID had an excusable last effort but showed her above-average quality when going close on her promising debut prior to that. The speedy daughter of Sail From Seattle should bounce straight back to form in this weak line-up on her track debut. Her stablemate FAIRYINTHEMIST should build on her fair debut over an extra furlong on this surface where she was also reported to be not striding out last month.

Race 2: POETRY(6)
Jockey: C Zackey  - Trainer: J Strydom

POETRY may have just needed her fair local debut over this c & d last month and she will strip much fitter today. The former Cape resident meets a far weaker field and she can pull this off.

Race 3: ZALIKA(10)
Jockey: L Hewitson - Trainer: Y Bremner

ZALIKA only got going late on her below-par first showing on this surface in her second start but the daughter of Bold Silvano would have come on from that experience and she should be an entirely different proposition over today's extra furlong. She showed her true ability with an exciting debut run on the grass in mixed company.

Race 4: BOXLEY(1) SCR
Jockey: G Cheyne  - Trainer: A Greeff

BOXLEY has shown smart potential and she still has much progress to come. The best-weighted entrant got into her top stride late as she beat BANK ON IT (2.5kgs better off) and GAME GIRL (3kgs better off) over this c & d earlier this year. The weight reversal brings the trio closer together but the top selection has the most scope and she could take some beating. The speedy former enjoys this surface and she has the pace to easily overcome her wide barrier.

Jockey: J Mphanya - Trainer: D McKenzie

BARBARELLA NIGHTS was well handled by today's 4kgs claiming apprentice when the pair found plenty to emerge victorious in a similar contest over an extra furlong on this track last month. The bay gelding was given a four pound penalty but he is drawn best of all and he will prefer this minimum distance.
