Race 1

POCKET WATCH stayed on at the finish over 1200m at the Vaal last time, but found one too good in the form of Halberdier. The son of Master Of My Fate will love the rise to 1450m and from pole position, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

MASTER ARIANO produced a decent debut effort over 1400m on the Fairview polytrack. He has changed stables since that outing. The son of Master Of My Fate jumps from a good draw of two and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

MARQUEZ showed good improvement in his last start over 1200m at the Vaal. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. If seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 2

PRINCESS LOLA showed good improvement when second in her last start over 1200m at the Vaal. She raced from just off the pace, but found one too good in the form of Southern Style. The daughter of Royal Mo will love the rise to 1450m and she should have more to come. From her good draw of four, she should be the one to beat.

LADY GREENSLEEVES has decent recent form lines to her credit. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she had to be steadied in the latter stages. She is in a good space and is one of the leading contenders

LIFE LESSON‘S last two starts have been fair. She tries the 1450m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she can show.

Race 3

CHAMPAGNE COCKTAIL was super-impressive when winning on debut over 1700m on this course. She raced from a handy position, quickened up well and was geared down in the closing stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She does take on stronger, but could be anything and can remain unbeaten.

SAY YES is a winner of her last two starts. She has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. She returns from a well-deserved 13-week break and if not in need of the run, she can notch up the hat-trick.

LITTLEMARYSUNSHINE was running on when second over 1500m last time. She is back against her own sex and should strip much fitter. From her good draw of three, she should run a big race.

Race 4

MRS BROWNING was her own worst enemy in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring F & M Challenge last time as she over raced in the early stages. She has won once and finished third twice from five starts on this course. If Kabelo Matsunyane is able to switch her off early, she can win a race of this nature.

CALLMEWHENUNEEDME is better than her last start. Her form prior to that outing was consistent. If putting her best foot forward, she should pose a threat.

BONETE was disappointing in her last two starts before the 33-week break. She would have strengthened up in her time off the track. She showed class early in her career and if not in need of the run, she can find a form return.

Race 5

SHOEMAKER is better than his last start in the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial with the blinkers fitted. He was far from disgraced in the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 in his penultimate run. The 19-week break would have done him the world of good after a hard season. He will have bigger plans for the season, but has the class to win on his return.

ZINOVI is the stable companion of the top choice. He has won once and finished third three times from five starts on this course. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and should run a big race.

SMORGASBORD ran a fair race in his comeback run over 1200m on this course. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 4kgs off his back and he should strip much fitter.

Race 6

EIFFEL TOWER ran on well when winning his last start over 1600m at the Vaal. The manner in which he quickened up and drew off in the closing stages was encouraging. The son of Potala Palace looks to have class and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should take a power of beating.

SILVER SANCTUARY won a good race in her last start over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She looks to be above average and should give the males a run for their money.

HOUSE OF ROMANOV followed up his maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1800m on this course. He won his maiden over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed from pole position and may be hard to peg back.

Race 7

TOTAL SURRENDER moved up well in his last start over 1800m on this course, but was outrun. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He won his only attempt over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo is booked to ride and he should notch up his fourth-career victory.

HOME OF THE BRAVE has good recent form lines to his name. He won his only attempt over this C&D. He always gives of his best and should pose a threat.

MILLAHUE finished 0.8 lengths behind TWIN TURBO last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. He runs well for Diego De Gouveia and must be included in all bets.

Race 8

HOUSTON took the lead at the 150m mark last time, but was caught late by Emporium. He finished second in his only attempt over this distance. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. Kabelo Matsunyane retains the ride and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.

MINI COOP is the stable companion of the top choice. He has decent recent form lines to his credit. It must be noted that Silent War has come out and won again since. If jumping on terms, he should run a big race.

AMERICAN BISCUIT had excuses in his last start over 1600m on this course. He tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand. He should run into the money.

Race 9

A PLACE IN THE SUN ran on from far back when third in her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. She has cracked a good draw of two and takes a slight drop-in class. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she should give the males a run for their money.

GODFATHER stayed on when third over this distance at the Vaal last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He jumps from a good draw of four and is one of the leading contenders.

CREPUSCOLO won a game race at the second time of asking. He does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand
