Race 1 

KIA KAHA showed good speed when winning at the second time of asking over 1000m on this course. The daughter of Var is a progressive type and it is encouraging that Gavin Lerena retains the ride. She may be hard to peg back at the wire.

TOWERS OF GOLD has finished third in both starts to date. He was running on over 1100m on this course last time. The son of Gimmethegreenlight has plenty of scope and is one of the leading contenders.

KEY NEWS is better than his last start against older rivals. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If finding the form of his debut run, he should be involved at the finish.

Race 2

FORCE EIGHT finished 1.25 lengths behind POINTER last time. She is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If getting away to a clean start, she should notch up her third-career victory.

POINTER raced from just off the pace over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Rodeo Drive. Gavin Lerena is booked to ride and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

BOSUM BUDDY raced in the Grade 3 TAB Pretty Polly Stakes last time. She returns from a 13-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She has scope and if not in need of this outing, she should earn a cheque for her patrons.

Race 3

AUTUMN VAR showed some improvement when fourth over this C&D last time. She should have finished closer to the winner that day as she hung in the final 300m. The daughter of Var is a progressive type and if keeping on a straight line, she should be involved at the finish.

HEY HEY JULIA finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

BELLISSIVAR showed good speed over this distance on the Inside course last time, but was caught late by Seventeen Again. The daughter of Var is in a good space and cannot be ignored.

Race 4

SECRET CHORD produced consistent form lines before given a 21-week break which may have done him the world of good. He finished second in his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Bezrin meets the right field and if not in need of the run, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

INSPECTOR JAMES is an unraced son of What A Winter from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable with Gavin Lerena in the saddle. He is related to two-time winner Women Of Fame. If not too green in running, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to his chances.

KING HARRY showed signs of needing his last start after a 41-week break. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. In this type of field, he should be right there at the finish.

Race 5

Trainer Johan Janse van Vuuren holds a strong hand in this contest and he can saddle the first three past the post. CHYAVANA has good consistent form lines to his credit. He has won three times, finished second twice and third once from nine starts on this course. He is having his peak run today and with stable jockey Gavin Lerena doing duty, he should notch up his seventh-career victory.

KARANGETANG showed good speed over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Trompie. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

RAINBOW REWARD finished 3.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

Race 6

LOVEGRASS showed good speed when winning her last start over this C&D. The pacifiers have done the trick on the daughter of Gimmethegreenlight. She is a filly with ability and has plenty of scope. She should follow up with another victory.

WHAT A TIGER ran a good race when second behind the top choice last time. He has dropped to a competitive rating and is one of the leading contenders.

LONGSWORD has finished second in his last two starts. He finished 1.25 lengths behind NKANDLA GOLD in his penultimate run. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Trent Mayhew which will assist his cause.

Race 7

TIME FO ORCHIDS ran a creditable race when fourth in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint last time. She has won twice and finished second once from four starts on this course. The daughter of Time Thief is the class horse in this contest and she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

ELEGANT ICE ran a fair race over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. She has won once, finished second three times and third once from as many starts on this course. She comes into this contest well-weighted and should have a say.

TROPPO VELOCE’S last start is better ignored as she raced with her tongue over the bit. She has won once and finished second three times from six starts on this course. On best form shown, she should feature.

Race 8

MAIN DEFENDER is better than his last start in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge. The son of Pathfork is unbeaten from three starts over this C&D. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and if putting his best foot forward, he should be the one to beat.

UNZEN’S last three starts have been fair. It must be noted that multiple horses from his last form line have come out and won since. Two of his four career victories have come over this C&D and he cannot be ignored.

BINGWA faced a competitive field in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge last time. It is encouraging that Kabelo Matsunyane steps back into the saddle and on his previous form, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 9

CLAW ran a fair race in the Grade 3 TAB Sea Cottage Stakes last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes a drop back in class and Gavin Lerena may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.

WILLOW EXPRESS took a keen hold and raced wide around the turn on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack last time. He returns to the Highveld and if finding the form of his penultimate run, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

CELTIC RUSH was not beaten far in his last start over 1800m on this course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. On best form shown, he would not be a shock winner
