Race 1
SECRET CHORD has produced three fair efforts to date. He stayed on when fourth over 1200m at the Vaal last time. The son of Bezrin is a progressive type and in this field, he can shed his maiden tag under Bernard Fayd’Herbe.
SAN SIMON ran a decent race in a small field on debut over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. The son of Querari would have gained from the experience and should love the extra distance on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should pose a threat.
GREAT BARRIER showed good speed over 1200m at the Vaal last time. She returns from a lengthy 30-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. If not in need of the run, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 2
PHANTOM EXPRESS showed good speed over 1200m last time, but was outrun late by Woman Of Power. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. Rachel Venniker takes the 1.5kgs off her back and in this line-up, she may be the one to side with.
FRENCH DUCHESS returns from a 21-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She had excuses leaving the start in both her career outings thus far. With luck in running and if fit, she should be one of the leading contenders.
WOMEN OF FAME took on winners in the Non-Black Type Bloodstock SA Sales Cup last time. The 17-week break would have done her the world of good. If finding her earlier form, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 3
JET DYNASTY returns from an 18-week break after a good third-place finish over this distance on the Inside course last time. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from five starts over this distance.
Gavin Lerena won on AMERICAN STAR last time and has opted to ride this son of Dynasty. If fit, he should notch up his third career victory. He dead-heated when winning his last start over 1800m on the Inside course. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and the combination merit healthy respect.
YOUCANTHURRYLOVE ran on powerfully when winning his last start over 1800m on the Inside course. He finished 0.75 lengths behind the second choice in his penultimate run. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 4
CLIFF HANGER fought back well when winning his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. The son of Canford Cliffs takes on stronger, but he carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and is above average. He should be up to the task at hand.
CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT finished 1.25 lengths behind DYCE last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He is at his best over this distance and merits healthy respect.
I AM GIANT won a good race in his comeback run over 1200m on the Inside course. He would have come on from the outing. He does take a rise in class, but is in a good space and can notch up the hat-trick.
Race 5
EGYPTIAN MAU ran a good race when second in the Grade 1 Douglas Whyte Thekwini Stakes last time. She was unlucky that day as she was inconvenienced at the 1300m mark. The 13-week break would have done her the world of good. She has cracked a good draw of four for her return and she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
WHITE PEARL fought hard in her last start, but found one too good in the form of the unbeaten Mrs Geriatrix. She finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
LET’S GO NOW finished 0.8 lengths behind MY SOUL MATE last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She will strip much fitter and cannot be ignored.
Race 6
We see the return of Grade 1 winner, SANDRINGHAM SUMMIT and he is the best bet on the programme. He was super-impressive when winning the Premiers Champion Stakes last time. He returns from a well-deserved 13-week break. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is loaded with class and he has an electric turn of foot. From barrier four, he should take a power of beating.
MAIN DEFENDER won a good race in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge last time. He raced from a handy position and won with a ton in hand under a low weight. He finished 2.4 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. The son of Pathfork merits healthy respect.
GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE ran a decent race in his season debut over 1450m on the Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He does have a wide draw to contend with but with luck, he should feature.
Race 7
SAFE PASSAGE showed some signs of needing his comeback run over this distance on the Inside course. He has won twice and finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. The 5-year-old gelding would have come on from his last outing and will strip much fitter. He races well this time of the year and can notch up his seventh career victory.
BINGWA is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge. He loves this C&D and won this race last year. The 6yo gelding will be looking to defend his title.
PUERTO MANZANO ran a good race when second over 2000m on the Inside course last time. This run will bring him on for the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup, but he is classy and merits healthy respect.
Race 8
BLACK THORN tried hard in his season debut, but he could not get to Afraad. He has won twice and finished third once from four starts over this C&D. He would have come on from the run and from his good draw of three, he can go one better.
ZEUS was an easy winner of his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and the combination can notch up the hat-trick.
ARUMUGAM finished 7.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is only 2kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned. He will strip a much fitter horse and cannot be ignored.
Race 9
ROYAL GUIDE has won his last two starts with ease, the latest of which was over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from as many starts on this course. He does take a big rise in class, but he is above average and carries a handy galloping mass of 52.5kgs. If not in need of the run, he should be hard to peg back.
PYROMANIAC showed signs of a form return in his last two starts before being given a 20-week break. He is a classy sort on his day and if putting his best foot forward, he should be one of the leading contenders.
LITTLEMARYSUNSHINE was running on when second over 1500m on the Inside course last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She is likely to be settled near the rear of the field from the widest draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 10
WOODLAND GLADE ran a fair race in her post maiden effort over 1800m on the Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She will enjoy the drop to 1600m and with JP van der Merwe in the saddle, she should give the males a run for their money.
MO THE MAN has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in his last outing has come out and won since. If getting away to a clean start, he should pose a massive threat.
AMERICAN BISCUIT has fair recent form lines to his credit. He has won once and finished third twice from as many starts over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most
