VALYRIAN KING should have finished closer to the winner in his last start over this distance at the Vaal. He showed good speed that day, but hung in the closing stages. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He is having his peak run this afternoon and should be cherry-ripe. Luke Ferraris does duty aboard the son of Duke Of Marmalade and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

SWINDON'S PRIDE is the best bet on today's card. He made the necessary improvement when finishing second over 1160m on the Standside course. He gets the blinkers fitted for the first time this afternoon and if the headgear has the desired effect, he should be tough to beat. He does have a wide draw to contend with today, but he should use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy.

FLASHLIGHT has finished runner-up in both her starts to date. The manner in which she races suggests that she will enjoy the extra distance on offer this afternoon. In-form Devin Habib knows the mare well and the combination should find themselves in the winner's enclosure.

GINSENG ran a fair race when finishing 1.5 lengths behind SAVING GRACE in her last start. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight will enjoy the rise to the ten furlongs and with a bit of luck from her wide draw, she should be the one they all have to beat.
