Race 1

This is a weak work riders Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is JUDGEMENT DAY from the Tony Peter stable. He set the pace over 1800m last time, but did not go on with the effort. His debut effort when second under Phelisile Mongqawa was encouraging. The son of Just As Well tries the 2000m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

WELL LOVED ran a fair race over 1600m on this course last time. He was reported to be fatigued that day. The son of Heavenly Blue tries the 2000m and he is a progressive type. Chamu Mabaya is booked to ride and he may be competitive in this line-up.

DUKE OF OXFORD showed improvement in his last start over 1400m at the Vaal. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will be suited to the 2000m. He is a progressive type and may have more to come.

Race 2

Six of the seven horses in this contest are unraced and the betting market will be the best guide with regards to their chances. RING A LING is an unraced daughter of Futura from the Sean Tarry stable with Richard Fourie in the saddle. If not too green in running, she should start her career on a positive note.

SHE’S A MIRACLE is a daughter of Lancaster Bomber from the Paul Matchett yard with Philasande Mxoli doing duty. She is related to two-time winner Chocolate Bomb. If not in need of the run, she should give a good account of herself.

FAMOUS LADY hails from the Alson Ndzilana yard and she is a daughter of Talk Of The Town. She gets the services of S’manga Khumalo which is a big plus.

Race 3

GUERILLA WARFARE was in need of his debut effort over this C&D. He was green in running and did not go on with the effort. The son of New Predator would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to side with.

FIRE ATTACK finished 1 length behind the top choice on debut. He would have come on from the run and should make the natural progression.

ADDRESS THE NATION is an unraced son of One World from the Candice Dawson stable with Craig Zackey in the irons. If not in need of the run, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers.

Race 4

FEEL ALL RIGHT raced from a handy position over 1450m on the Inside course last time, moved up but was caught late by Pocket Watch. Jockey Wesley Marwing is likely to use his early natural gate speed to get across without using up too much energy. He is in a good space and can shed his maiden tag.

STORM BRASCO finished 1.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result. He is a progressive type and may have more to come.

ROSSORE FINALE set the pace over 1400m on this course last time, but was outrun late by Free Movement. He returns from a 28-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. If not in need of this outing, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 5

BEATING WINGS produced an encouraging debut effort over 1400m at the Vaal. She was green in running, but stayed on nicely at the finish. The daughter of Rafeef would have come on from the run and should love the rise to the mile. With a bit of luck from her wide draw of 12, she should be the one to beat.

SILKY JET has produced two decent efforts to date. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in her last start has come out and won since. She has plenty of scope. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

MARIESKOP is an unraced daughter of Gold Standard from the Mike and Adam Azzie stable with Muzi Yeni in the saddle. She is related to multiple winners including Orpheus and Fife. If not too green in running, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her and the other unraced entrant.

Race 6

MELECH was not beaten far in the Grade 2 Allied Steelrode – Onamission Charity Mile last time. He raced from a prominent position before getting outrun late. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. The son of William Longsword jumps from a good draw of three and should take a power of beating.

LITIGATION is better than his last start in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won twice and finished third three times from seven starts over this distance. Richard Fourie is booked to ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

SAVANNAH STORM quickened well to win his last start over 1400m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He is ideally C&D suited and merits healthy respect.

Race 7

BATTLEGROUND was a tad disappointing in his last start over this C&D. He received a bump at the 700m mark that day which didn’t help his chances. He finished 1.75 lengths behind FLYING BULL in his penultimate run. He is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If putting his best foot forward, he should return to winning ways.

FLYING BULL won a game race in his last start over 2400m on the Vaal Classic course. He tries the 2850m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he should be hard to peg back.

ABSOLUTE VALUE has good consistent form lines to his credit. He set the pace over 2400m at the Vaal last time and kept finding to hold all challengers at bay. He is in a good space and merits obvious inclusion.

Race 8

TAEGAN’S CHAMP was super-impressive when winning on debut over this distance at the Vaal. He lost a length leaving the start, but quickened up well before getting geared down in the closing stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He does take on stronger, but could be anything and can remain unbeaten.

WYZEACT followed up his maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1160m on this course. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. S’manga Khumalo steps back into the saddle and he should pose a massive threat.

CARE TAKER ran a good race when second over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Donald Geerthsen retains the ride and another honest effort is expected
