Race 1

OPEN HIGHWAY has produced three decent efforts to date. He showed good pace after jumping inwards at the start last time and stayed on to finish second. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will love the step up to 1200m. The son of Var gets the services of capable work rider Siyabonga Mthembu and he may be the one to side with.

KLITSGRAS ran a fair race on debut over 1160m at Turffontein. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Potala Palace would have come on from the run and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should pose a massive threat to the top choice.

MAGIC PRINCE finished 3.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 2

ZOOM LADY showed good speed over 1000m on the Turffontein Inside course last time, but found one too good in the form of Glitterfox. The daughter of What A Winter is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and in this line-up, she should take a power of beating.

UNITED’S RANSOM was disappointing in her last start over 1400m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack. Her penultimate run over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course was fair. She jumps from a good draw of four and can run into the money.

PRIMROSE PATH has finished fourth in her last three starts. She finished 1.75 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

Race 3

SECRET RECIPE showed very good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She set the pace, but was outrun by Have A Party. Diego De Gouveia retains the ride and if confirming her recent improvement, she should go one better in this field.

MISAVA ran a fair race over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course last time. Muzi Yeni takes the ride and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

KIT KAT KATIE ran a fair race in her last start over this distance at Turffontein. Her best form has been over this distance and she should earn a cheque for her patrons.

Race 4

JUST VAR set the pace over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course last time, but was caught late. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Var tries the mile for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may be hard to peg back.

AMBULU raced from a handy position over this distance at Turffontein last time, but found one too good in the form of Royal Guide. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. If Calvin Habib is able to switch him off early, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

ATCHISON TOPEKA showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She is a progressive type and may have more to come. She is carded to race on 25 May 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 5

ANTANANARIVO’S last two starts have been good. She raced from a handy position over 1800m on this course last time and stayed on to finish third. Her penultimate run when second over this C&D catches the eye. Philasande Mxoli retains the ride and she should shed her maiden tag.

MISS CHRISTMAS ran a decent race when second in her last start over 1600m at Turffontein. She was reported to have cast a shoe in running that day. S’manga Khumalo does duty today and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

THE WORK OF LIFE showed very good improvement in her last start over 1400m at Turffontein. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She steps up to the 2000m and may have more to come.

Race 6

NORDIC REBEL has finished second in his last two starts. He was settled at the rear of the field over 1600m last time and ran on well at the business end. He finished second in his penultimate run over this distance. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and he can notch up his 12th career victory.

BOB’S YOUR UNCLE set the pace over 1600m last time, but was caught late by Celestial City. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He tries the 1800m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he may be hard to peg back.

MILLAHUE has decent recent form lines to his credit. He got going too late when second over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The 4yo gelding is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

Race 7

LAGUNA VERDE stayed on when fourth over this distance at Turffontein last time. The classy son of Gimmethegreenlight takes his place in Handicap Company. He jumps from a good draw of four and if putting his best foot forward, he should return to winning ways.

BOLD FORTUNE is better than her last start in the Grade 2 WSB Gerald Rosenberg Stakes. She has won three times and finished second twice from six starts on this course. She carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and should give the males a run for their money.

WILLOW’S WISH has good recent form lines to his credit. He stayed on strongly when third in his last start over 2000m on the Turffontein Inside course. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

Race 8

RAIN OR SHINE tried hard in his last start over this C&D, but found one too good in the form of Tizona. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. Chase Maujean retains the ride and with a bit of luck in running, he can go one better.

LORD VARYS won a good race in his last start over this C&D. He raced from a handy position, found a kick and kept going well. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can follow up.

BLOOMINGTON finished 9.5 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result
