Race 1
TIGER IN RED is much better than his last start over 1160m at Turffontein. It must be noted that Silver Tudor has come out and won again since. He has been gelded since that outing which may have done the trick. The son of Time Thief finished third in his only attempt on this course and if fit, he can shed his maiden tag.
COTTON RON took on winners in his last start over this C&D. He finished 0.2 lengths behind VICTOR RAIL in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
VICTOR RAIL raced from a handy position over 1200m last time, but found one too good in the form of Maserati Roar. The drop to 1000m is a slight concern, but he cannot be ignored with Keagan de Melo in the saddle.
Race 2
CHELSEA FLOWER finished 0.4 lengths behind NATIONAL DREAM last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She jumps from pole position and should give the males a run for their money.
NATIONAL DREAM showed some signs of a form return in his last start over 1800m on this course. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. He is having his peak run today and is one of the leading contenders.
GUISEPPI’S SONG finished 0.65 lengths behind the second selection last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. He tries the 2000m for the first time and cannot be ignored.
Race 3
NELSON BAY is the best bet on the programme. He stayed on when fifth over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. His penultimate run when third over this distance catches the eye. He returns to Maiden Company and if suited to the polytrack, he should be too good for this field.
PURPLENINJATURTLE showed very good improvement when third over 1450m on the Turffontein Inside course last time. The son of Time Thief is a progressive type and may have more to come. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
MYSTERY CACHE finished 6.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.
Race 4
SILVER CLOCK may not have seen out the mile in her last start on the Turffontein Inside course. She won a good race in her penultimate run over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. The daughter of Time Thief takes a drop in class and from her good draw of two, she can notch up her third career victory.
HATTA won a good race in her last start over 1600m on this course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She has won once, finished second once and third four times from seven starts over this C&D. She is carded to race on 26 May 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.
CHELSEA BLUE followed up her maiden win with a good fourth-place finish over 1200m on this course. She would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. She has plenty of scope and with a bit of luck in running, she can show.
Race 5
QUIZ MASTER set a fast pace in his last start over this C&D, but cost himself winning as he shifted to the outside running rail in the closing stages. He has won once, finished second once and third five times from 12 starts over this C&D. He is carded to race on 26 May 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.
TWOSIDESTOASTORY was caught late when second over this C&D last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is in a good space and must be included in all bets.
WORD FOR WORD was running on when third over 1200m on this course last time. Tristan Godden retains the ride and if keeping on a straight line, he should have a say.
Race 6
VOLDEMORT was running on too late when second over this C&D last time. It must be noted that Proud Master has come out and won again since. The son of William Longsword tries the blinkers which should keep his mind on the task at hand. He takes a drop in class and will be mowing down the frontrunners. WILLIAM RUFUS stayed on when fourth over 1400m last time. He finished 1.1 lengths behind
PARMENION in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.
PARMENION has decent consistent form lines to his credit. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he had to ease at the 1200m mark. Chase Maujean steps back into the saddle and the pair cannot be ignored.
Race 7
INGAKARA raced wide around the turn over 1600m last time, but the manner in which she finished off her race was encouraging. She has won once and finished second twice from nine starts over this distance. If this run has not come too soon, she may be the one to cause the upset.
JUST VIRGINIA ran a good race when second over 2000m on this course last time. She gets the services of 4kgs claiming apprentice Kobeli Lihaba which will help her chances. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
BAY BREEZE finished 1.35 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around. She always gives of her best and can finish in the placings.
Race 8
FIGHT SONG ran a good race when second over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He will strip a much fitter horse and can go one better.
SHAVOUT finished 0.65 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
CAPTAIN ROCKET raced from a handy position over 1600m on the turf last time, but found one too good in the form of Tirpitz. He won his only attempt on this course. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and can finish in the money
