WP V SHARKS

Posted 23 August 14h54

I handicapped this game WP +4.5 and it opened +3.5 and after touching +2.5 it appears to have settled there.

Both Couch Critic and The Oracle were confident in the Sharks continuing their revival and based on what I have seen from WP I am not going to argue.

I like the Sharks on the handicap here but my main focus is on the points lines.

The Sharks have tightened up their defence in the last couple of matches and in what looks likely to be wet conditions I think they can restrict this WP team.

I have seen 57.5 quoted at Pokerbet but I am going to wait for a quote on WP points before getting involved

You snooze you lose. The points line ranges from 52.5 and 54.5 and I will not be getting the under 28.5 I was hoping for on WP points.

I fancy the Sharks here so lets keep things simple and back them to win by 3 or more.

BET: 4 units Sharks -2.5 at 19/20 at WSB

GRIFFONS v PUMAS

Posted 23 August 14h51

We had a good laugh at this game on Thursday nights live airing of THE HANDICAP and you can catch the clip here to see why.

I handicapped this game Griffons +32.5 and it opened +30.5 but has moved against my expectations to the current line of +27.5.

The Pumas have lost 2 in a row and were well beaten by the Bulls and Lions but they play a Griffons side that is starting to show sign of wear and tear after 7 straight games and I expect the Pumas will put them away.

I am going to wait for points lines before taking action though.

The handicap has been fairly stable although I sense a bit more money for the Pumas and the line is firm at -28.5.

At this point I think its worth looking at the Currie Cup log where the Pumas sit in 5th place 5 points behind the Cheetahs who have already played their 8th game.

The Pumas will know a bonus point win here (and ideally improving their points difference of -43 v the Cheetahs +57) is a non negotiable and I reckon they will come out firing.

I am not expecting any penalties to be taken by the Pumas and reckon they will make a priority of bagging those 4 tries as quickly as possible.

I have seen 1/1 they get over 21.5 1st half points and as I don’t expect penalties that will require 4 tries and 1 conversion.

Better value for me then is that they score 4 tries in the 1st half at odds of 12/10.

BET: 4 units Pumas over 3.5 1st half tries at 12/10 at Betway*

CHEETAHS v LIONS

Posted 23 August 14h07

I got this handicap wrong in my Sunday night handicapping exercise as I went Cheetahs -2.5. The line opened +7.5 Cheetahs and has now come in to +2.5 so pretty much midway between the bookies line and mine.

The strange thing is I fancy the Lions who have played some excellent rugby and were dominant last week at home to WP.

The Cheetahs have not convinced in recent times and I think a confident Lions team can win this with some room to spare.

Pokerbet are out with points lines and go 58.5 but I am going to mull over this for a bit and will post any points bets in this blog.

In the meantime though I am joining Couch and Oracle who were on the Lions on last nights show – click here for their views

BET: 4 units Lions -2.5 at 10/11 at Sportingbet*

The points line is 57.5 and that is enough to tempt me. This bet would have arrived in both meetings last year and this Currie Cup has generally been an overs players dream.

BET: 4 units over 57.5 points at 9/10 at WSB

BLUE BULLS v GRIQUAS

Posted 23 August 10h34

The handicap opened at -20.5 and has settled at -22.5 which is exactly where I set it in my Sunday night handicapping exercise.

If pushed I would go for the Bulls on the cap but I am once again defaulting to a points line play.

The last 2 Bulls home games have had 76 (Griffons) and 84 points (WP) and the over 62.5 is just low enough to get my attention.

BET: 4 units Total Points Over 62.5 at 9/10 at WSB

Update 10h40 - the line moved to 64.5 quickly I will give further thought and probably make another play which will be posted later

Update 12h50 - if like me you missed the 62.5 I am still an overs player at 63.5 at Betxchange at 0.88/1
