WESTERN FORCE v WARATAHS

The Force pulled off something of an upset in Melbourne last week when they came from behind to beat the Rebels 16-15 in what was a pretty disappointing match for anyone other than Force backers.

Looking at their home form this season they lost by 3 points to the Rebels in a low scoring encounter and way back in Round 1 went down 16 points to the Brumbies.

The Waratahs have had an awful season and have changed coaching staff as they search for their first victory. They are coming off a bye and prior to that they did push the Brumbies hard going down 24-22 in Sydney and a closer look at their away form this season shows up a 19 point loss at the Rebels, a 51 point hammering against the Brumbies in Canberra and a 34 point hiding against the Reds in Brisbane.

When these sides met earlier this season, the Force came out on top 20-16 in Sydney and the sides never played in Perth last season due to COVID-19.

Western Force 4/10

Draw 28/1

Waratahs 12/5

Handicap: Western Force (-6.5) at 9/10, Waratahs (+6.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet: Waratahs win at 12/5

While the blame for the Waratahs poor performance cannot be laid at the previous coaching staff, I already saw an improvement last time out against the Brumbies and now feel they can now kick on with confidence and beat a Force side that just has too many older players in it for my liking.

REBELS v BRUMBIES

The Rebels were highly fancied by punters last week, but went down 16-15 to the Force at home, their second successive home loss having being hammered 44-19 by the Reds the week before. Their only other home game was a 33-14 win over the Waratahs and this sides main problem is their seeming inability to create try scoring opportunities or perhaps more accurately to finish off those try scoring opportunities.

The Brumbies lost to the Reds in Brisbane by 2 points last week, their second 2 point defeat to the Reds this season. Prior to that they had beaten the Waratahs by 2 points in Sydney, failing to add to what was a big lead at the break and their other away match this season was a 16 point victory over the Force in Perth in Week 1.

The Brumbies edged the Rebels 27-24 when they met in Canberra earlier this season.

Rebels 57/20

Draw 28/1

Brumbies 1/3

Handicap: Rebels (+7.5) at 9/10, Brumbies (-7.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet: Half-time / Full-time, Brumbies / Brumbies at 5/6

I am not entirely convinced by the team the Brumbies have named, but after watching the Rebels in recent weeks I can’t find any reason why the Brumbies can’t lead at half-time and kick on and win the match.
