Race 1
LADY OF ARC produced a promising debut effort when fourth over 1160m on this course. She raced from just off the pace before tiring late. The daughter of Royal Mo would have gained from the experience and will strip a lot fitter for this run. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to beat.
HEY HEY JULIA’S last three starts have been fair. She showed speed over this C&D last time but tired late. The daughter of Canford Cliffs is coming along the right way and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
BAKWENA is an unraced daughter of Gimmethegreenlight from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable with Keagan de Melo in the saddle. She is related to ten-time winner Divine Odyssey. If not too green, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.
Race 2
INSPECTOR JAMES ran a decent race on debut over this C&D. It must be noted that Secret Chord has come out and won again since. The son of What A Winter would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
KARATE KID ran a good race on debut over 1160m on this course. He was green in running but stayed on at the finish. The son of Erupt would have come on from the run and should fight out the finish.
POTBERRIE has shown good improvement in his last two starts. He stumbled leaving the start last time and stayed on to finish second. The son of Potala Palace should have no issues with the drop to 1000m and he cannot be ignored.
Race 3
TOWERS OF GOLD has produced two good third place finishes to date. He was running on over 1100m on this course last time. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and if not in need of the run, he should be the one to beat.
CONFEDERATE produced a promising debut effort over 1400m at the Vaal. He was green in running, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Fire Away would have come on from the run and should love the rise to the mile. With the natural improvement that is expected, he can go one better.
ZAFAR showed good improvement when fourth over 1160m on this course. The manner in which he finished off his race that day suggests that he will enjoy the rise to the mile. Muzi Yeni retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.
Race 4
CITY LIGHTS has good consistent form lines to her name. She moved up like a winner last time, but was caught late by Party Punch. The drop to the mile will suit her well. She meets the right field and may be rewarded for consistency.
SILKY JET finished 2.6 lengths behind SILVER FLARE last time. She is 6.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She will strip a much fitter horse today and may be the one to cause the upset.
SILVER FLARE showed massive improvement when third over 1450m in her local debut. Philasande Mxoli retains the ride and if repeating that effort, she should be involved at the finish.
Race 5
STREWN SKY was unlucky not to have won his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The son of Potala Palace is in a good space and can notch up his second-career victory.
COPPER MIST has shown signs of a form return in his last two starts. He raced from a handy position and rallied late. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
MOUNT DARWIN stayed on in his last start over 1600m at the Vaal. The son of Ideal World will love the rise to 1800m and from his good draw of two, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 6
MERIDIUS is better than his last start in the Grade 1 Hollywoodbets Durban July. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from five starts over this C&D. The son of Canford Cliffs is the class horse in this contest and he should take a power of beating.
GOOD COUNCIL is better than his last two starts. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. If not in need of this outing, he should find a form return.
PYROMANIAC showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1600m at the Vaal. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 7
CAPTAIN HINDSIGHT was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1000m at the Vaal. He raced from a prominent position and found extra where it matters most. The 8-year-old gelding is in a good space and can follow up with another victory.
RULERSHIP finished 0.25 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.
ANFIELDS ROCKET is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Post Merchants. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won three times, finished second once and third once from nine starts on this course. If finding the form of his penultimate run, he should be competitive.
Race 8
OPEN HIGHWAY has very good consistent form lines to his name. He challenged strongly when third over 1600m at the Vaal last time. He has won once and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. The son of Var merits healthy respect.

. BOB’S YOUR UNCLE fought hard for his last victory over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes a rise in class but may be hard to peg back with 56kgs on his back.
Race 9
GOLDEN PAVILION has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He raced wide early, but fought hard all the way to the line. The son of Danon Platina is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
SOUTHERN BLAZE ran on strongly when winning his last start over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He has won twice and finished second once from five starts over this C&D. Apprentice Trent Mayhew takes the 2.5kgs off his back and he can follow up.
KING’S RANSOM won a game race over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time. He returns from a well-deserved 11-week break. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and if fit, he may be hard to peg back
