Cape Town City 32/10 Draw 9/4 Orlando Pirates 0.87/1
City made the best possible start to 2025 under coach Muhsin Ertugral with a 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in Cape Town on Sunday. That moved them up to eleventh in the standings with a record of 4 wins, 2 draws and 5 defeats. On the downside, an overall league goals scored tally of just 7 would have to a be a concern.
Pirates were in CAF Champions League action last weekend and they completed a comfortable 3-0 home win over Stade d'Abidjan to remain unbeaten in their group with 2 wins and 2 draws. The Bucs return to league action in second spot, 3 points behind Sundowns with a record of 9 wins and 1 defeat. They have an identical goal difference to Downs and this game in hand. Pirates only league defeat this season came at home to Stellenbosch (1-0) at the start of December and since then they bounced back with a 8-1 hiding of Gallants and 1-0 win at Magesi.
The Verdict:
These teams have already met twice at the start of this season, in the MTN8 semi finals over 2 legs and the first leg in Cape Town finished 1-1 with Pirates winning the return in Orlando 2-0.
I'd probably have been in the camp of the visitors but the new coach bounce factor worked for City at the weekend and Pirates will have to be at their very best to displace Sundowns at the top of the standings. I'm looking for no more than 1 goal in the match regardless of the outcome.
Bets: Total Match Goals, under 1.5 at 15/10 with Betway
Kaizer Chiefs 1.12/1 Draw 2/1 Stellenbosch 26/10
With 4 wins, 3 draws and 4 defeats, 14 goals scored and the same number conceded Chiefs are in mid table and way off the pace being set by title contenders Sundowns and Pirates. With just 2 wins in the last 9 league games it's hard to see them getting in a blow in terms of the title race although only 4 of their 11 games have been designated home fixtures which have delivered 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat.
Stellies are fifth in the standings, 2 places and 1 point better off than Chiefs and they have played 1 game fewer than their opponents here. They are the only side to beat Pirates in the league this season although other results last month saw them go down 1-0 at home to Sundowns and they played out a 1-1 draw at Supersport.
The Verdict:
Five league games last weekend delivered 4 draws and Cape Town City's 1-0 win against Chiefs. Backing the draw has long been a runner in this league and in a tricky looking contest this could easily be another game that finishes all square.
Bets: Match Result Draw at 2/1 with Betway
