BettingDiaryThe Rainbow Cup continues on Saturday and we take a look at both matches and suggest a bet in each.

LIONS v STORMERS

The Lions opened their campaign away to the Bulls two weeks ago, losing 22-9 and failing to score a try. They then played the Sharks in Durban last week eventually going down by 8 points in an entertaining match, but it was a game where they never looked like beating the host team.

There are a number of promising youngsters coming through the system and if conditions are good in Johannesburg we are likely to see some entertaining rugby from this Lions side.

The Stormers have lost both their opening games at home, a fortnight ago they led early against the Sharks, but a series of cards and some poor play saw them let the visitors in for the win. Last weekend they faced the Bulls and the Stormers will also be disappointed to lose that one by 4 points in a match where defence dominated attack.

Lions 15/10

Draw 25/1

Stormers 6/10

Handicap: Lions (+4.5) at 9/10, Stormers (-4.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet: Handicap, Stormers (-4.5) at 9/10

I will definitely be keeping an eye out for a total point’s line in this game as I think that we could have lots of tries from both sides, each of which is looking for their first win. Overall though I feel the Stormers will be the stronger side and if they play anywhere close to potential and improve their discipline they should win this by 5 points or more.

BULLS v SHARKS

These sides put their 100% records on the line and it is certainly a game not to be missed. The Bulls have been involved in 2 low scoring affairs, beating the Lions 22-9 in Pretoria and then going down to Cape Town for a 20-16 win over the Stormers.

The Sharks two victories have been very different and have both been high scoring games, beating the Lions 34-26 at home last week and the Stormers 33-30 in Cape Town the week before.

The Bulls were too strong for the Sharks went they met at Loftus in the Super Rugby Unlocked Tournament winning 41-14 in late 2020 and they have won 6 of their last 7 matches against the Sharks at Super Rugby level.

Bulls 13/20

Draw 25/1

Sharks 14/10

Handicap: Bulls (-3.5) at 9/10, Sharks (+3.5) at 9/10

Suggested Bet: Sharks win at 14/10

The Bulls defence won’t be easy to break down, but I think the Sharks have the attack to do it and I am looking for the visitors to cause a minor upset.
