Perfectly reasonably card for midweek at Durbanville on Wednesday, playing around these.
Race 2 Viva Asterix at 5/4. Looked more than useful when winning on debut from gate 12 and form of that race franked. Wide again here but a small field, fitness on his side compared to some market rivals and this could be another stepping stone towards bigger things.
Race 4 Eyecatcher each way at 10/1. Many of the leading fancies have drawn high, only third start and will strip fitter for latest when returning from a lengthy absence.
Race 5 Fog In Finland at 28/10. 3yo was highly tried last time and meets nothing of that calibre here. Still unexposed and Zackey an interesting jockey booking
Race 6 Clark Griswold at 28/10. Beaten 1 length in a stronger race last time, mark unchanged and looks well suited to this trip
Race 7 O’Tenikwa at 11/2. Like many is returning from a break but has gone well fresh before. The only C&D winner in a strong field well drawn at 4.

Turffontein inside track on Thursday, tricky little card imo, found these 3.
Race 2 Nixie Girl at 3/1. Despite being friendless in the market ran a cracking 2nd on debut at the Vaal. Form of that race yet to be tested but could prove stronger than the lines for her rivals here. Wide draw to overcome the main negative.
Race 5 Me And You at 5/2. Goes in search of the hat trick upped in trip, trainer looks to be placing her shrewdly and may still be ahead of the handicapper
Race 6 Surprise Party at 15/2. Ignore latest, run prior to that brings her right into it, holds a number of these at today’s weights

Double header on the poly on Friday, will deal with Fairview first
Race 2 Indestructable at 5/1. 2nd last time out returning from a break, well drawn at 2 and should strip fitter today
Race 5 Japanese Garden at 7/1. Backed when 2nd beaten less than 2l in a grade higher last time, mark unchanged
Race 8 Silvano’s Song at 33/10. Ticks aa few boxes, down in grade, beaten 0.35l last time when returning from a break in a slightly stronger field, player if he can overcome draw 8.

Tipsters Sheet
then on to Greyville late afternoon / night racing
Race 2 Peach Melba at 28/10. Often fancied but has proven expensive to follow. However, never far off and often with excuses, change of trainer and could deliver an overdue maiden win.
Race 5 Littleblackgem at 7/2. Closely matched with hat trick seeking Your Ladyship, took keen latest, should be right there is settling better
Race 6 Targaryen Knight each way at 10/1. Connections have 2 in the race and this is the bigger price but has been taking on stronger and now gelded
Race 7 Imposing at 7/2. Now 7yo but form generally holding up well in stronger races. Should enjoy return to the poly, has the No 1 gate and a 4kg claimer to lighten the burden.
Race 8 Spirit Of Shimla at 7/2. Has drawn wide again but that was also the case on last run on 24th Sept and holds a couple of market rivals on that effort.

Durbanville Saturday, playing around these.
Race 3 Cydonia at 33/10. 4th on debut beaten less than a length over c&d and winner that day went in again here in midweek. Drawn wide again but looks set to run a big race
Race 7 Lark’s Song at 18/10. Betting suggests holds the best chance of the 3 runners from the yard. Would have needed latest over a trip probably shorter than ideal when slowly away, Should be right there if jumping on terms with Fortune up.
Race 8 All About Al at 9/4. Now 9yo and form holding up remarkably well, loves Durbanville and holds the older horses on form lines so unless any of the more lightly raced 3yo’s are this could be career win no 9
Race 9 Axis Power at 5/1. It all went wrong here last time, ignore that, penultimate run here which was WCP debut was solid and puts him right there. Drawn 1 with Fortune up

Racing was a battle for me this week until last 2 at Durbanville on Saturday came in at odds bigger than anticipated. Algoa Cup at Fairview on Sunday, was once a favourite meeting of mine and good to see it run on turf. Going with a mix of well fancied horses and a couple of each way roughies
Race 2 Nannie Gold at even money. Has been earning in WCP maidens and looks a worthy favourite here.
Race 3 Ventura Boulevard at even money. Takes on her elders off a light mass. After a runaway maiden win was thought of highly enough to contest a 2yo feature in KZN in May. Chased home a 104 rated runner on only race since
Race 5 Streisand each way at 20/1. Consistent performer in GTG, no show on ECP debut which was on poly can hopefully be forgiven
Race 7 Prairie Dawn at 28/10, Snaith raider, 2nd in a listed event at Durbanville on comeback, still lightly raced and open to further improvement. Proven local hot pot to beat but is in receipt of plenty of weight.
Race 8 Johnny Drama each way at 16/1. Both career wins came in turf at the trip. Yet tin in ECP and drawn wide but is down in class and should enjoy return to grass. Any market support would offer further encouragement.

Fairview switched to poly not long after I posted, will stay with those picks but no time to revisit form based on poly rather than turf
