Race 1 

EASY TIGER won a good race on debut over this C&D, four weeks ago. She showed a good turn of foot and drew off in the closing stages. The daughter of Rafeef gets the services of Richard Fourie and can remain unbeaten.

GLASTONBURY won a game race on debut over 800m on this course. She returns from a 10- week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Rafeef could be anything and she is one of the leading contenders.

CAROLINE ISLAND showed good speed when winning at the second time of asking. She finished 0.3 lengths behind the second selection on debut. The daughter of Querari is a progressive type and she should be involved at the finish.

Race 2

WINDS OF CHANGE was an easy winner when shedding his maiden tag over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of What A Winter produced some good efforts in feature races last season and he has plenty of class. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and he can follow up with another victory.

GRAND CRESCENDO is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge. He returns from an 18-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. If not in need of the run, he should pose a massive threat.

THE SPECIALIST had excuses in the Grade 3 Got The Greenlight Stakes last time. If finding his earlier form, he would not be a shock winner.

Race 3

UP THE ANTE should have finished closer to the winner over 1200m last time as she hung inwards in the final 300m. The manner in which she has finished off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 1600m. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight will be at peak fitness and with luck in running, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

MOUNTAIN HIGH has been costly to follow and has finished second in her last four starts. She should love the rise to 1600m and Gavin Lerena may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

HOLLYWOOD MADAM ran a decent race on debut over 1400m at the Vaal. She was green in running, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of What A Winter should make the natural progression.

Race 4

APACHE CHIEF produced an encouraging local debut over this C&D. He jumped outwards leaving the start and stayed on nicely at the finish. The son of Lancaster Bomber will strip a much fitter horse and with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride, he may be the one to beat.

SPY STORY set the pace over 1500m last time, before getting outrun late by Chariot Of Fire. He finished 1.1 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

SNOW MOON is better than his last start over 1800m. He drops back to 1600m and with the services of Richard Fourie, he should earn another cheque.

 

 

Race 5

ZEUS was not disgraced in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup last time. He has won three times and finished third twice from six starts over this C&D. It is encouraging that Gavin Lerena steps back into the saddle and the combination can return to winning ways.

RAISEAHALLELUJAH returns from a 10-week break which would have done him the world of good. He has won twice and finished second three times from seven starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

CRIMSON KING has shown signs of needing his last two starts. He won his only attempt over this C&D. On best form shown, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 6

LET’S GO NOW has finished third in her last two starts, the latest of which was over this C&D in the Grade 2 Mike de Kock Ipi Tombe Challenge. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick and she can return to winning ways.

BEATING WINGS is better than her last start in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup as she was reported to be not striding out. The daughter of Rafeef is unbeaten from two starts over this distance. On previous form, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

WILLY MEET AGAIN stayed on when third over this C&D last time. The daughter of William Longsword has class about her and with Richard Fourie in the saddle, she should be competitive.

Race 7

COUNT INVICTO won a good race in the Non-Black Type WSB Heritage Consolation last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Royal Mo has class about him and he may be the one to beat.

FRANCINE was an easy winner of her last start over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts on this course. The daughter of Silvano should give the males a run for their money.

MISS HANNIGAN set the pace over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course last time before getting outrun late by My Lady Soul. She gets the services of Rachel Venniker who takes the 1.5kgs off her back. She is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

Race 8

THE NAVY LARK stayed on when fourth over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course last time. She finished 2.45 lengths behind WARM WINTER NITE, three runs ago. The daughter of Captain Of All is 7kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She can return to winning ways.

WARM WINTER NITE won a good race in his last start over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. He won his only attempt over this C&D. He drops back in class and can follow up with another victory.

GLAWARI finished 0.7 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result
