RACE 1
This is a weak Open Maiden field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is CONNECTION from the Gavin Smith stable. He set the pace over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish second. The 6yo gelding is having his peak run today and should be cherry-ripe. In this line-up, he can shed his maiden tag.
WAR SWORD finished 1.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned.
AND ACTION was in need of his local debut over 1000m on the turf. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is having his first run for the Alan Greeff stable and is expected to show improvement.
RACE 2
LA PEQUENITA has been costly to follow in recent outings but her form has been good. She raced from a handy position over 1300m last time and stayed on to finish third. She is back against her own sex and in this field, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
VINTAGE CRYSTAL fought hard when second in her last start over this distance on the turf. She finished 2.25 lengths behind the top choice, in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
SUNDROP is a battling maiden having run 39 times. She has finished second once and third twice from seven starts over this C&D. She is capable of earning another cheque for her patrons.
RACE 3
UNYIELDING ran on strongly when second over 1600m on the polytrack last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to 2000m. Sean Veale is booked to ride from barrier four and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.
CHRONICLESOFNANIA finished 2.3 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today which is not enough for the tables to be turned, but she should finish closer as a result.
LADY WRITER has good consistent form lines to her credit. She has won once, finished second once and third four times from eight starts over this distance. With luck in running, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
RACE 4
ALLENDE finished 1.75 lengths behind KILMONIVAIG last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She gets the services of 1.5kgs claiming apprentice Donald Geerthsen which will assist her cause. She jumps from a good draw of two and may be the one to side with.
KILMONIVAIG was unlucky not to have won her last start over this C&D. She meets a similar line-up this afternoon and with luck in running, she should be competitive.
IQEMBULABESIFAZANE returns from a 12-week break which would have done her the world of good. She has won once and finished second once from three starts over this C&D. If not in need of this outing, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 5
COLORAMA’S last three starts have been fair. She stayed on when fifth over 1200m last time. She has finished third three times from as many starts over this C&D. If not too far out of her ground turning for home, she can return to winning ways.
LADY TIPTREE was running on when third over 1600m on this course last time. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. If getting away to a clean start, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
KOMESANS PASSION’S last two starts have been fair. She finished 0.05 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. She is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
Race 6
GUERRA is better than his last start over 1400m on the turf. It must be noted that Gimme’s Laddie has come out and won again since. The son of Lancaster Bomber won his only attempt over this C&D. On best form shown, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
DONNY TEE raced from a handy position over 1200m last time and stayed on to finish second. He has won once, finished second five times and third once from nine starts on this course. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
ABOUND finished 0.5 lengths behind the second selection last time. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.
RACE 7
TIMBAVATI RIVER stayed on when fourth over 1600m on the turf last time. He has won three times and finished second twice from ten starts on this course. The 6yo gelding takes a slight drop in class and in this field, he may be the one to side with.
EYJAFJALLAJOKULL won a good race in his last start over 1200m on this course. He received a three-pound penalty for that victory. From pole position, he can follow up.
FINAL EDITION is better than his last start on the turf. He returns from a 21-week break which may have done him the world of good. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from five starts on this course. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
RACE 8
MY BEST SHOT was doing his best work late when third over 1400m on the turf, in the Listed Champion Juvenile Cup. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Fire Away has plenty of ability and if not too far out of his ground turning for home, he should take a power of beating.
VALERIAS DREAM is having her first run for the Gavin Smith stable. She has been facing much stronger and takes a drop in class. Muzi Yeni is booked to ride and if settled into her new surroundings, she should pose a massive threat.
EUPHORIC has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. It must be noted that the form of his last outing has been franked. From pole position, he is a type that cannot be ignored
