Newly promoted Ipswich host Liverpool and then visit Manchester City in their first two matches back in the big time. Last season all the sides who had been promoted from the Championship went straight back down.

 

Liverpool finished third last season and new coach Slot replaces Klopp. Transfer activity has been quiet and by all accounts there will be a different style of play but you have to think they are capable of challenging for honours once again.

 

The Verdict:

 

Jota is my “go to” man when it comes to goalscorer bets and I am siding with him to open his account here.

Arsenal 1 / 5 Draw 57/10 Wolves 15.5/1

 

Last season's runners up look set to challenge again. They had the best defensive record last season, conceding just 29 goals and have brought in further options at the back.

 

Wolves have plenty of new additions to the squad but they are largely unknown quantities to me and the departures of Kilman and Neto would have me worried about their chances of bettering last season's points tally of 46.

 

The Verdict:

 

Wolves form tailed off towards the end of last season and I fancy they will find it tough to trouble the Gunners. The home side get the vote to win 1-0,2-0 or 3-0

Everton 16/10 Draw 24/10 Brighton 16/10

 

Considering all the off field issues and a points deduction Everton did well to stay up last season and I'm not overly enthusiastic they can do much else this time around.

 

Brighton have a new coach, Fabian Hürzeler, they have a track record of finding gems in the transfer market and if that proves to be the case again they can better last season's mid table finish

 

The Verdict:

 

Brighton have had a good pre-season and although Pascal Gross will be a huge miss don't discount a couple of new names proving to be up there with the best of the “bargain” buys. The match result betting tells it's own story and I'm with the draw.

Newcastle 4/10 Draw 41/10 Southampton 69/10

 

Newcastle finished seventh last season and they were the fourth top scorers with 85 goals. They don't have European football to contend with this time around but to me their transfer business to date suggests they will battle to do any better than 2023/24.

 

Southampton bounced straight back to the top flight via the play offs and staying up will be the name of the game.

 

The Verdict:

 

Anthony Gordon barely had a kick in the Euro's so should be pretty fresh and he appeals to me as an anytime goalscorer

Notts Forest 15/10 Draw 1.35/1 Bournemouth 19/10

 

Forest were another side who were hit with a points deduction last season but they still had more than enough in hand to stay up and they should be more stable this time around.

 

Bournemouth had a good campaign last season but now have to find a regular goalscorer to replace Solanke who has moved to Spurs. They ought to have significant funds to spend before the transfer window closes and if they use it wisely they should be comfortable again.

 

The Verdict:

 

More on gut feel than anything else I think Forest can make a winning start.

West Ham 15/10 Draw 5/2 Villa 1.82/1

 

West Ham have recruited well in my book and let set for a decent season, perhaps threatening in cup competitions. Bowen was excellent last season and now has an out and out striker in the shape of Niclas Fullkrug and arguably the best player in the Championship last season Crysencio Summerville is another eye catching signing. Their defence looks set to have a major overhaul.

 

Villa did superbly well to finish fourth last season and can look forward to the Champions League this time around. They will likely be heavily reliant on the goals of Watkins again but Douglas Luiz will be a big miss in the middle of the park.

 

The Verdict:

 

It's very possible West Ham might need a few games for the new recruits to bed in but with plenty more attacking options in the squad I'm taking my chances on a home win here.
