BET HERE ON THE DURBAN JULY

Race 1

THE CHARLESTON won a very good race in the Non-Black Type Bloodstock SA Sales Cup (Fillies) last time. She returns from an 18-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of The United States will love the extra distance on offer. She has class about her and if not in need of the run, she can notch up the hat-trick.

SECRET IDENTITY ran on strongly when winning the Listed Hollywoodbets Super League Devon Air Stakes last time. She is drawn wide in barrier 11, but is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

DOLCEZZA finished 0.5 lengths behind the second selection in the race referred to above. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the wire.

Race 2

OUTLAW KING showed good speed in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion at Hollywoodbets Scottsville, but found one too good in the form of Lucky Lad. He jumps from a good draw of four in his first run around the turn and if not too green, he should be the one to beat.

JERUSALEMA RAIN was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over 1160m at Turffontein. The gutsy son of Captain Of All jumps from a good draw of three and with Aldo Domeyer back in the saddle, he is one of the leading contenders.

GIMMELIGHTNING was a tad disappointing in the Grade 3 City Of Cape Town Cape Of Good Hope Nursery last time. His penultimate run when second in the Non-Black Type Trippi Stakes was encouraging. He returns from an 18-week break, during which time he was gelded. If not in need of the run, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 3

LORD WILLIAM ran a creditable race when third in the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial last time. Despite taking a keen hold in the early stages, the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of William Longsword is holding his form well and if Serino Moodley is able to switch him off early, he can notch up his fourth career victory.

ONE WAY TRAFFIC should have finished closer in the Grade 3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup last time. The son of Dynasty won this race with ease, last year. This is his peak run and from his good draw of four, he should be competitive.

JIMMY DON produced a typical second run after a rest in the Grade 3 Jubilee Stakes last time. His penultimate run when third in the Grade 3 Byerley Turk was creditable. He will be cherry-ripe for this race and with a bit of luck in running from the widest draw, he should run a big race.

Race 4

RUNAWAY SONG won an impressive race in the Grade 3 Track And Ball Derby last time. The manner in which he quickened up and drew away from the field was eye-catching. The son of Legislate would have come on from the run and if seeing out the 3000m, he can follow up.

FUTURE PEARL should have finished closer in the Grade 3 Lonsdale Stirrup Cup as he had to be steadied at the 350m mark. He was an easy winner in the Grade 3 WSB Gold Bowl in his penultimate start. The son of Futura has no stamina issues and with a bit of luck in running, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

ARUMUGAM finished 3.25 lengths behind the second selection in the race referred to above. He is 3kgs better off at the weights and should finish closer as a result. The son of Duke Of Marmalade will be staying on at the business end.

Race 5

MRS GERIATRIX is the best bet on the programme. She is unbeaten from four starts and was super-impressive when winning the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship last time. The manner in which she drew clear of the opposition that day suggests that she should not have any issues with the 1400m. The daughter of Vercingetorix is the class horse in the race and should keep her unbeaten record intact.

DISTANT WINTER was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 3 Winter Nursery at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth last time. She quickened up well and held on where it matters most. The daughter of What A Winter should have no issues with the step up to 1400m and she may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

EGYPTIAN MAU was not disgraced when fourth against males in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion last time. The daughter of Fire Away is the stable elect with jockey Craig Zackey in the saddle. With a bit of luck in running, she may be the one to cause the upset.

Race 6

GUY GIBSON should have finished closer to the winner in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion last time as he was inconvenienced at the 400m mark. The manner in which he has finished off his last two races suggests that he will be at home over this distance. French jockey Christophe Soumillon does duty and from his handy draw of five, he may be the one to side with.

GIMMEANOTHERCHANCE justified favouritism in the Listed The Sharks Gatecrasher Stakes last time. He took the lead at the 500m mark that day and quickened away from the field in fine style. He is likely to race on the speed from his wide draw and may be hard to peg back.

GOLDEN TATJANA is a filly taking on the males. She ran a decent race in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson Championship last time. She should have finished closer that day as she ran around in the closing stages. The daughter of Erupt tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 7

Africa’s most prestigious race has arrived and a quality field take their place. SEE IT AGAIN from the Michael Roberts stable is the confident first selection. The son of Twice Over has had the perfect preparation heading into this race. He was super-impressive when winning the Grade 1 Daily News 2000 last time and should have won easier than the official margin suggests. He will have no issues with the rise to 2200m and he jumps from a handy draw of seven. Piere Strydom has won this race four times and will give him all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

WITHOUT QUESTION finished 2 lengths behind the top selection in the race referred to above. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. Stable jockey Richard Fourie has elected to ride the son of The United States which is encouraging.

PUERTO MANZANO was an easy winner of the Grade 3 Jubilee Stakes last time. He is a multiple Grade 1 winner and with some luck in running, he can notch up the hat-trick.

Race 8

This race should be fought out by DESERT MIRACLE and PRINCESS CALLA with preference for the former. She was doing her best work late when second in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint last time and the 1200m is not her ideal distance. Her last two victories have come over this distance in Grade 1 events. French jockey Christophe Soumillon knows her well and she can notch up her seventh career victory.

PRINCESS CALLA was an easy winner in the Grade 1 SA Fillies Sprint last time. She has won a Grade 1 event over this distance. Her wide draw of ten is no concern as Richard Fourie knows her well and he should give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

GOLDEN HOSTESS finished 4.4 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. She is the stable elect with Aldo Domeyer in the saddle and will be doing her best work late to finish in the placings.

Race 9

THUNDERSTRUCK is one of the better bets on today’s card. He showed good pace in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time, but was outrun late by Gimme A Prince. He has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. If suited to this course, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

SURJAY finished 0.05 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

PEARL OF ASIA showed signs of a form return in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. The 6yo gelding will be settled near the rear of the field from his wide draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

Race 10

CAPTAIN FONTANE has good consistent form lines to his credit. He finished 1.1 lengths behind SILVANO’S DASHER last time and is 1.5kgs better off at the weights. There should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. The son of Captain Al is versatile and can notch up his eighth career victory.

SILVANO’S DASHER ran on powerfully when winning his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He is at his best over shorter, but is in a good space and merits healthy respect.

QUASIFORSURE moved up well in the Grade 3 Hollywoodbets Dolphins Cup Trial last time, but found one too good in the form of Winchester Mansion. He will love the drop back to the mile. Grant van Niekerk retains the ride and with a bit of luck from barrier twelve, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 11

ZINIKELE finished off her race well when fifth over 1800m on the turf last time. It must be noted that Rockie Reef has come out and won again since. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight will love the return to the Polytrack as all three of her victories have come on this surface. She is having her peak run today and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

LUCKY MISS raced from a handy position over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time, but found one too good in the form of Alphabetty. The daughter of What A Winter always gives of her best and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

KAILENE was an easy winner of her last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She finished 0.4 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

Race 12

TIRPITZ has good consistent form lines to his credit. He challenged strongly when fourth in his last start over 1600m on the Highveld. He won a good race in his penultimate start over 1600m on the turf. The drop to 1400m is no concern for the son of Silvano and if suited to the polytrack, he can notch up his third career victory.

FOSTINOVO fought hard in his last start over 1200m on the Turffontein Inside course, but found one too good in the form of Silver Tudor. His only two victories came under Gavin Lerena. He steps up to 1400m and the blinkers have been removed. The son of Flower Alley is one of the leading contenders in this field.

USA’S HOPE was running on when third over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. He is having his peak run and will be cherry-ripe. If suited to this course, he should run another big race
