Race 1:
GIMME A RAINBOW is still a maiden after 12 starts, but has good recent form lines to his credit. He showed good speed last time, but found one too good in the form of Casimiro. He has finished second once and third twice from four starts on this course. He jumps from a good draw and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
MASTER DANCER ran a good race when finishing second over this C&D last time. He should have finished closer that day as he hung in the latter stages. If keeping on a straight line, he should pose a threat to the top choice.
KING CYRUS was in need of his last two starts after returning from an 11-week break. He is having his peak run today and should be cherry- ripe. The son of Silvano will be staying on at the finish.
Race 2:
HIROSHIMA ran a decent race when finishing fourth with the blinkers fitted last time. She should have finished closer to the winner as she hung in the latter stages. The daughter of Futura should be at home over today’s distance. If keeping to a straight line, she should shed her maiden tag.
SIMPLY COMPLICATED has good consistent form lines to her credit. She looked a winner last time, but was caught in the shadow of the post. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
PAPILLION’S last two starts with the blinkers fitted have been good. The manner in which she finished off her race last time suggests she will enjoy the extra furlong on offer. Wayne Agrella rides and the pair must be included in all bets.
Race 3:
MISSION BEACH has returned to form in her last three starts. She was slow into stride last time, but stayed on nicely at the finish. She gets the blinkers fitted this afternoon and if the headgear has the desired effect, she can return to winning ways.
CAPRICCIO was her own worst enemy last time as she overraced in the early stages. It must be noted that Fire Faerie has come out and won again since. Anton Marcus takes the ride this afternoon and if he is able to switch her off early, she should pose a threat.
LEGEND HAS IT has shown improvement in her last two starts under Khanya Sakayi. She continues to drop to a competitive rating and can run into the money.
Race 4:
SEA SPONGE has some good recent form lines to his credit. He raced from a handy position last time, but was outrun in the latter stages. He has finished third twice from three starts over this C&D. He should strip a much fitter horse today and from pole position, can notch up his third career victory.
STRAIGHT UP finished 0.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
COMMAND CONTROL was ultra-impressive when winning his maiden over 1900m on this course. He takes on stronger today, but is lightly raced and looks to have scope.
Race 5:
NOT NOW PUSSYCAT finished 1 length behind BELL JAR last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line. She is better suited to the Polytrack and will be staying on strongly.
BELL JAR was ridden to perfection when winning her last start over this distance on the turf. She meets a similar type of field today and can follow up.
ROYAL KITTY showed good signs of a form return in her last start over 1400m on this course. She looked a winner that day, but was caught in the shadow of the post. She is having her peak run today and should be cherry-ripe.
Race 6:
DURAN challenged strongly in his last start, but found one too good in the form of Diamonds ‘n Dust who has come out and won again since. He has won once, finished second once and third once from six starts over this C&D. Stuart Randolph retains the ride and the combination can go one better here.
ROCKET FIRE ran a good race when finishing third over this C&D last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He should be the one to throw out the biggest challenge to the top choice.
UNCOMPLICATED is a 2yo taking on older. He was ultra-impressive when winning his last start over this C&D. He takes on stronger and carries a big mass, but looks to have plenty of scope.
Race 7:
SATARA is the value bet on the card. She was settled near the rear of the field last time, but the manner in which she finished off her race caught the eye. It must be noted that Soiree has come out and won again since. The 5yo mare will enjoy the extra furlong on offer and with Luyolo Mxothwa in the saddle, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.
GINGERSPATHTOGLORY should have finished closer last time as she was cramped for galloping room at the 800m mark. She will enjoy the extra furlong on offer and with a bit of luck in running, she can feature.
COLOUR OF LIGHT was not disgraced when finishing under 2 lengths behind the winner in stronger company last time. She has finished second twice and third once from four starts over this C&D. Lyle Hewitson may be able to get the best out of her.
Race 8:
SMART WILLIAM makes his local debut for the Peter Muscutt stable and brings some decent recent Cape form. He gets the blinkers fitted today which should keep his mind on the task at hand. If suited to the Polytrack, he can notch up his second career victory.
HIGHER PURPOSE ran a fair race in his last start over 1800m on this course, against slightly stronger. It is encouraging that Warren Kennedy keeps faith in the ride and he should be one of the leading contenders.
PALACE WIND’S last three starts have been decent. He has finished third twice from three starts over this distance. With a bit of luck from his wide draw, he can run into the money
