Race 1

This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is VARIETY FAIR from the Peter Muscutt stable. She has produced three fair runs to date, the last two of which were against male company. She returns from a 10-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. The daughter of Var meets the right field today and if not in need of the run, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure.

DECLARE WAR should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the closing stages. Her penultimate run when fourth over 1400m on this course was fair. If keeping on a straight line, she should pose a threat.

SHIPHOLIA is an unraced daughter of William Longsword from the Gareth van Zyl stable with Athandiwe Mgudlwa in the saddle. She is related to three-time winner Mirage. If not too green, she should get her career off to a positive start. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

Race 2

BEVIES DELIGHT has taken on winners in each of her races to date. She was not disgraced when finishing 2.95 lengths behind the winner in the Grade 2 Golden Slipper in her penultimate start. She would have strengthened up during her time off the track. The daughter of Vercingetorix takes on Maiden Company and if suited to the polytrack, she should take a power of beating.

STEALTH ATTACK showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. She jumps from pole position and with Keagan de Melo in the saddle, she should have more to come.

ADRENALINE RUSH’S last two starts have been fair. She jumps from a good draw of three and in this line-up, she can improve to finish in the placings.

Race 3

KITTYBOYS GIRL has shown good improvement in her last two starts over this distance at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. The daughter of Admiral Kitten tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. She jumps from a good draw of three and if suited to the polytrack, she may be the one to beat.

ZINIKELE may have been asked the question too soon in her last start over this distance on the turf. Her penultimate run when finishing second catches the eye. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

LADY OF GOLD showed very good improvement in her local debut over 1600m on the turf. She raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. If this run has not come too soon, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

ADELANTE’S last start can be ignored as she overraced and compounded in the straight. The blinkers have been quickly removed. She finished second in her penultimate start over this C&D. Muzi Yeni knows her well and if getting her own way in front, she may be hard to peg back.

WHISPERING GREEN’S last three starts have been decent. She finished 0.8 lengths behind the top choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

MAITH AN CAILIN hails from the visiting Robyn Klaasen yard. Her penultimate run when finishing third over 1600m on the Turffontein Inside course was fair. If suited to the polytrack, she can place in this line-up.

Race 5

IRON CHEF was an impressive winner of her last start over 1900m on this course. Despite having to switch at the 450m mark, she won going away. She has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. Ashton Arries retains the ride and with a bit of luck in running, she can follow up.

DUQUESNE WHISTLE has shown good improvement in her last two starts on this course. She finished 3.4 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 1kg better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

QUE FOR YOU set the pace over 1900m last time, but found one too good in the form of My Cherie Amour. Both her career victories have come over this distance. From her good draw of three, she may be hard to peg back.

Race 6

COIN SPINNER showed good speed when winning his last start over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. He has no issues with the drop to 1000m as he has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this trip. The Tony Rivalland stable have hit form and he can notch up his sixth career victory.

FORMAGEAR was not beaten far in the Grade 2 Umkhomazi Stakes last time. He was reported to have bled that day and returns from his suspension/break. He is the best-weighted runner in this contest and should give his older rivals a run for their money.

WINTER FLIGHT won a good race in his stable debut over 1100m on this course. He has won twice and finished third three times from seven starts over this C&D. Kabelo Matsunyane retains the ride and the pair merit healthy respect.

Race 7

WHITE CEDAR showed good signs of a form return in his last start over this C&D. He set the pace and fought hard all the way to the line, but found one too good in the form of Crested Eagle. 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Malesela Katjedi retains the ride and he may be hard to peg back.

CAPETOWN AFFAIR showed good guts when winning his last start over this C&D. He jumps from a good draw of two and with Muzi Yeni retaining the ride, he can follow up.

FINAL DESTINY ran a fair race in his last start over 1200m on this course. He has won twice and finished second once from seven starts over this distance. He has dropped to a competitive rating and cannot be ignored.

Race 8

HALLERBOS ran a fair race when fifth against stronger company over this distance on the turf last time. His penultimate run when finishing second over this C&D catches the eye. Malesela Katjedi takes the 2.5kgs off his back which will help his cause. He does have the early gate speed to overcome the widest draw and he can return to winning ways.

MOVIE MAGIC should have finished closer to the winner last time as he was baulked for a run from the 400m mark to the 300m mark. He has finished second twice and third twice from seven starts over this C&D. He has cracked a good draw of four and should be cherry-ripe.

HIGH VELOCITY is better than his last start as he was reported to be coughing. His penultimate run over this C&D was encouraging. He will be cherry-ripe for this outing and must be considered
