It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She has finished second twice from three starts over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and the pair may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
JADE’S CABERNEIGH set the pace over this distance on the turf last time and stayed on to finish third. The blinkers have been removed for this outing. She jumps from pole position and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
KYNISKA finished 2.5 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.
Race 2
HOOVES OF TROY had excuses in the Listed In Full Flight Handicap last time. He has won once and finished second three times from five starts over this C&D. He won his two previous efforts under Keagan de Melo. The 6yo gelding will strip a much fitter horse today and if keeping on a straight line, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
LOVE IN WINTER was a tad disappointing in the Listed In Full Flight Handicap last time. He finished 2.45 lengths behind RENAISSANCE MAN in his penultimate run and is 2.5kgs better off at the weights. There should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.
RENAISSANCE MAN cost himself at the start in the WSB Dash last time. He has won once, finished second once and third once from five starts over this C&D. If jumping on terms, he can return to winning ways.
Race 3
Trainer Alyson Wright holds a strong hand in this contest and can saddle the first two past the post. CAESURA raced from a handy position over 1900m last time and stayed on to finish second. It must be noted that Blazing Light has come out and won again since. He has won four times and finished second once from nine starts over this C&D. His last victory came under Rachel Venniker and he will be staying on strongly.
IBUTHO has fair recent form lines to his credit. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from as many starts over this C&D. From pole position, he should go close to winning.
FLYING GRACE ran a fair race over 1900m last time. He drops back to the mile and in this field, can run into the placings.
Race 4
SPRING KISS followed up her maiden victory with a decent fourth-place finish over 1400m on this course. She tries the mile for the first time. If seeing out the extra distance on offer, she may be the one to beat.
PERFECT TRUST was caught late in her last start over this distance at Hollywoodbets Kenilworth. She has won once, finished second three times and third once from seven starts over this distance. The daughter of Vercingetorix makes her stable debut and if settled into her new surroundings, she should pose a threat.
CRAZY BLUES stayed on when second over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville last time. She is having her peak run and will be cherry-ripe.
Race 5
EXCEED EXPECTATION finished 2.1 lengths behind HALLERBOS last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The son of Pomodoro has dropped in the ratings and with just 53.5kgs on his back, he can return to winning ways.
HALLERBOS’ last two starts have been good. He fought hard over this C&D last time, but found one too good in the form of Action Stations. The son of Count Dubois merits healthy respect.
QUICK STAR has fair recent form lines to his name. He is having his peak run and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
Race 6
PETIT VERDOT ran on strongly when second over this C&D last time. The daughter of What A Winter has dropped to a competitive rating and if not too far out of her ground turning for home, she should notch up her second career victory.
IDEAL GIFT showed good signs of a form return in her last start over 1400m on this course. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. She drops back in class and is one of the leading contenders.
GELSOMINA ran a fair race against stronger in her last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. Her only victory came under Keagan de Melo. She jumps from pole position and should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 7
FATEFUL DAY was doing his best work late when fifth over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won over this C&D in the past. The son of Master Of My Fate takes a slight drop in class and from his good draw of two, he may be the one to beat.
FAST LOVE finished 0.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
BEECHAMWOOD BOY is better than his last start as he was reported to be not striding out. He has won twice, finished second once and third twice from nine starts on this course. He is better over shorter but cannot be ignored.
Race 8
AGRESSIVO rallied late when second over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He drops to the 1200m and is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field from his wide draw of 11. The son of What A Winter will be mowing down the frontrunners.
PHINDA MZALA finished 0.7 lengths behind PHAKA IMALI in his penultimate effort. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
PHAKA IMALI is better than his last start suggests. He was given a peach of a ride when winning his penultimate outing over this C&D, under Ashton Arries. He is drawn in pole position and should run a big race
