Race 1
FORESHORE has shown improvement in each of her outings to date. She stayed on when third against males in her last start over this C&D. The daughter of Wylie Hall is a progressive type. Richard Fourie takes the ride from pole position and she may be the one to beat.
SEA OF TEARS is still a maiden after 16 starts, but she has finished second in her last three outings. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in her last start has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
CAPTAIN MARVEL set the pace over this distance on the Polytrack last time, fought hard but was touched off by La Prestissimo. If repeating that effort in this line-up, she should be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.
Race 2
MANZ KNIGHT hails from the visiting Paul Matchett stable. He is better than his last start over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. His penultimate run when third over 2000m was encouraging. Luyolo Mxothwa takes the ride and he may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.
PUERTO PLATA finished 1 length behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.
DUKE OF AFRICA ran a good race when second over 1900m on the Polytrack last time. He raced from a handy position and stayed on nicely at the finish. If this run has not come too soon, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.
Race 3
This is a competitive Merit Rated 77 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is PRIME EXAMPLE from the Ashley Fortune stable. He ran a fair race in his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won twice and finished second once from four starts over this trip. If all went well with his travels, he may be the one to beat.
TWICE GOLDEN ran a good race when third in the Non-Black Type WSB Highland Night Cup last time. He has won twice and finished third twice from eight starts over this C&D. Appie Kobeli Lihaba takes the 4kgs off his back and he merits healthy respect.
ROCKIE REEF was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over 1800m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She tries the 2400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should give the males a run for their money.
Race 4
ROYAL VICTORY may not have seen out the 1800m in the Grade 1 WSB SA Classic last time. He returns from a well-deserved 13-week break which would have done him the world of good. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from as many starts over this distance. He jumps from pole position and if not in need of the run, he should be the horse to beat.
CAPTAIN FONTANE won a good race over 1600m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. Despite taking a hold in the early stages, he kept on well to hold all challengers at bay. He has won on this course in the past and merits healthy respect.
AFRICAN SKYLINE is the stable companion of the second choice. He has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. He always gives of his best and cannot be ignored.
Race 5
WINTER CLOUD was an easy winner in the Grade 3 Strelitzia Stakes last time. Despite a slow start, she showed good pace and drew clear of the opposition. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She will love the extra 100m on offer and is the horse to beat if jumping on terms.
MRS GERIATRIX was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 2 WSB SA Fillies Nursery last time. Despite getting baulked at the 600m mark, she got up where it matters most. This is her toughest test to date, but she has plenty of class and is one of the leading contenders.
RASCOVA finished 2.8 lengths behind the top selection in the Grade 3 City Of Cape Town Cape Of Good Hope Nursery last time. She returns from a well-deserved 14-week break which would have done her the world of good. If fit, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 6
LUCKY LAD was super-impressive when winning the Grade 2 WSB SA Nursery last time. He did not get off to the best of starts, but quickened up well and drew clear of the opposition. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is loaded with class and if all went well with his travels, he should keep his unbeaten record intact.
OUTLAW KING fought hard in the Grade 3 Godolphin Barb Stakes last time, but may have just needed the outing. He would have come on from the run and will be cherry-ripe. He is unbeaten from two starts over this distance and merits healthy respect.
CLIFF HANGER showed good speed in the Grade 3 Godolphin Barb Stakes last time and fought hard to hold all challengers at bay. The son of Canford Cliffs is having his first run for the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable. This is his toughest test, but he has plenty of ability and cannot be ignored.
Race 7
PRINCESS CALLA stayed on when third in the Grade 1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint last time. She was super-impressive when winning the Grade 2 Senor Santa Stakes in her penultimate run. The daughter of Flower Alley is unbeaten from two starts over this distance. Richard Fourie steps back into the saddle and she is the horse to beat.
DESERT MIRACLE was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes last time. She finished third in her only attempt over this distance. The daughter of Dynasty is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
GOLDEN HOSTESS was unlucky not to have won the Grade 2 WSB Fillies Guineas last time. She has won twice and finished third once from five starts over this distance. With a bit of luck in running, she should be involved in the fight to the finish.
Race 8
GIMME A PRINCE was doing his best work late when second in the Grade 2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes last time. He showed good speed in the Grade 2 Khaya Stables Diadem Stakes in his penultimate run over this distance, but was outrun late by Bereave. He would have come on from his last run and has been prepped for this race. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is the horse to beat.
RIO QUERARI was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 3 Champagne Stakes. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. If suited to this course, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.
WILLIAM ROBERTSON is better than his last start in the Grade 2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes. His penultimate run in the Grade 1 Jonsson Workwear Computaform Sprint was encouraging. He will be mowing down the frontrunners in the run down to the line.
Race 9
KITCHAKAL won a good race in his last start over 1600m on this course. He raced from a handy position and found extra where it matters most. The son of Master Of My Fate has ability and if seeing out the 1750m, he can follow up.
PONTE PIETRA was an easy winner of his last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He finished 1.15 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 1kg worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
TABEBUIA was an easy winner of his last start over 2000m at Turffontein. He set the pace, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. Richard Fourie retains the ride and the pair merit obvious inclusion
