Race 1
BOMBER GIRL showed good speed in the Grade 3 Strelitzia Stakes last time, but did not go on with the effort. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Her penultimate run when second over 1200m on this course catches the eye. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber is back in Maiden Company and with S’manga Khumalo retaining the ride, she can shed her maiden tag.
MIA‘S ATHENA has produced two good efforts to date. She showed speed in male company last time and stayed on to finish third. The daughter of Lancaster Bomber is back against her own sex and should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
AFRICAN BEAT has finished second in her last two starts. She raced from just off the pace over 1200m last time and stayed on at the business end. She is in a good space and merits healthy respect.
Race 2
ICY BLAST was not disgraced when fourth in the Grade 3 City Of Cape Town Cape Of Good Hope Nursery last time. He showed good speed, but was outrun late. It must be noted that Winter Cloud has come out and won again since. He returns from a 12-week break, during which time he was gelded. The son of Erupt meets the right field and if not in need of the run, he should take a power of beating.
LET THE FLAG FLY is better than his last start over 1400m. His penultimate run when second over 1200m on this course was encouraging. He is having his peak run and should be the one to fill the exacta spot.
SPLENDID FELLA has fair recent form lines to his name. He should have finished closer to the winner last time as he hung in the closing stages. Apprentice Kobeli Lihaba takes the 4kgs off his back and he may be hard to peg back.
Race 3
WINTER FROLIC caught the eye on debut over this distance at Hollywoodbets Greyville. She had to overcome the widest draw of 12 and the manner in which she finished off her race was impressive. The daughter of What A Winter would have come on from the run. She does take on male company, but carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and can shed her maiden tag.
NELSON BAY ran a good race when third over this C&D last time. He raced from a handy position and stayed on at the finish. The son of Rafeef is a progressive type and may have more to come.
MAIN DEFENDER won a good race on debut at long odds over 1100m on this course. The son of Pathfork will love the rise to 1400m. He could be anything and merits healthy respect.
Race 4
TRUSOVA produced a promising debut effort over this C&D, three weeks ago. He was green in running, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The son of Oratorio would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.
THISISWHATITMEANS is the stable companion of the top choice. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will love the step up to 1400m. From his good draw of three, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.
POWER STAR has finished second in his last two starts over this distance. With a bit of luck from his awkward draw of nine, he may be the one to spoil the Peter Muscutt party.
Race 5
This is a weak Maiden Plate for the girls and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is BOSNAY from the Darryl Moore stable. She was green in running over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time, but finished off her race nicely. The daughter of Potala Palace is progressive and will love the rise to the mile. In this type of field, she may be the one to beat.
MYTHICAL TUNE has fair consistent form lines to her credit. She finished third in both her efforts over this distance. From her good draw of four, she should go close to winning.
THEAPPLEOFMYEYE was in need of her debut effort over 1400m on this course. The daughter of Var would have come on from the run and will love the rise to the mile. With the natural improvement that is expected, she can finish in the placings.
Race 6
LUCKY MISS stayed on when fifth over 1200m last time. She won a game race in her penultimate start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Greyville, under Sean Veale. She has won once, finished second three times and third once from nine starts on this course. The daughter of What A Winter takes a slight drop-in class and can notch up her fourth career victory.
OCTOBER FAIR was an easy winner of her last start over this distance on the Turffontein Inside course. The daughter of Silvano takes a rise in class, but may still be ahead of the handicapper and she should be up to the task at hand.
FABULOUS was unlucky not to have won her last start as her saddle slipped in running. She would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. From pole position, she must be included in all bets.
Race 7
AURORA STORM stayed on strongly when second in his last start over 1600m on this course. He will love the step up to 1950m and he will be at peak fitness. The son of Gimmethegreenlight jumps from pole position and he may be the one to beat.
PROFESSOR SNAPE finished 1.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line.
RELEASE ME finished 1.05 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result from his wide draw of 11.
Race 8
ENSUING was running on when second over 1400m last time. The drop to 1200m is no concern as he has won twice from four starts over this distance. The son of William Longsword takes a slight drop-in class and he will be mowing down the frontrunners.
CHEEKY LADDIE raced from a handy position over this distance last time, but found one too good in the form of Suryavarman. He won his only attempt over this C&D. The son of Gimmethegreenlight should strip much fitter and he is one of the leading contenders.
GIMME A RAINBOW is better than his last start against stronger company. He has finished second twice and third once from as many starts over this C&D. On best form shown, he should be involved.
RACE 9
DIAMOND GIRL should have finished closer to the winner last time as she was carried at the 300m mark and cast a shoe in running. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She has won twice from five starts over this C&D. The 5yo mare takes a drop-in class and can return to winning ways.
SHIPHOLIA was an easy winner of her last start over 1100m on the polytrack. The daughter of William Longsword takes on stronger, but she may be ahead of the handicapper and should be up to the task at hand.
LA PURA VIDA has decent recent form lines to her name. She should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the closing stages. Apprentice Siphesihle Hlengwa takes the 1.5kgs off her back and the daughter of Pathfork has a say
