Magic Tips Best Bets
Race 3: IRON SKY (1)
Jockey: K Matsunyane – Trainer: S Pettigrew
IRON SKY stayed on when third over this distance at Turffontein last time. The winner, Civil Princess looks to be an above average sort. The son of What A Winter meets the right field and if suited to this course, he may be the one to beat.
Top Bet For Today
Race 4: SWING UPON A STAR (1)
Jockey: G Lerena – Trainer: S Tarry
SWING UPON A STAR has good consistent form lines to his credit. He stayed on when second behind Karangetang in his comeback run over 1000m on this course. The son of Elusive Fort has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. He is the best-weighted runner and will strip much fitter. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and the combination should find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.
Race 5: NAMAQUA BLOSSOM (6)
Jockey: R Danielson – Trainer: M Houdalakis
NAMAQUA BLOSSOM should have won her last start over this distance at Turffontein as she shifted away from the crop in the closing stages. She finished 0.25 lengths behind RARATONGA ROSE that day. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. If Raymond Danielson is able to keep her on a straight line, she should return to winning ways.
Race 9: PRINCESS PHILIPPA (4)
Jockey: R Simons – Trainer: S Pettigrew
PRINCESS PHILIPPA is a winner of her last two starts over this distance. She ran on powerfully to get the better of Hollywoodbound in her last outing and received a six-pound penalty for that victory. She is the form horse in the race and should notch up the hat-trick.
Value Bet For Today
Race 8: SOUTHERN BLAZE (12)
Jockey: P Mxoli – Trainer: S Pettigrew
SOUTHERN BLAZE has good recent form lines to his credit. He was unlucky not to have won his last start as his pilot lost his stirrup irons momentarily at the 300m mark. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes a step up in class, but carries a handy galloping mass of 52.5kgs and is capable of notching up his third career victory
