Race 1

PONTIAC is the best bet on the programme. The son of What A Winter produced a promising debut effort over 1000m on the Inside course. He was slow into stride, but the manner in which he finished off his race was eye-catching. The form of that race has been franked. He found plenty of betting support which suggests that he was showing good work at home. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should take a power of beating.

SAGAN finished 0.8 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today. The son of Var is a progressive type and is one of the leading contenders.

FISH EAGLE has finished second in his last two starts with the blinkers fitted. He has finished third twice from three starts over this C&D. If jumping on terms, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 2

BRONZE SWORD has shown improvement in his last two starts on this course. He stayed on at the finish over 1800m last time, but found one too good in the form of Breeze Over. The son of Silvano will be at home over this distance. Richard Fourie steps into the saddle and he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

QUANTIFIER finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. His effort when finishing second over this distance, three runs ago catches the eye. The son of Querari will be doing his best work at the finish.

POSITIVE ATTITUDE showed very good improvement in his last start over 2400m, despite the saddle reported to have slipped. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. He should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 3

MERCANTOUR has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. He raced from a prominent position last time and stayed on at the business end. It must be noted that Anfields Rocket has come out and won a Grade 1 since. He won his only attempt over this C&D. Jockey Richard Fourie takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

TROMPIE is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Winchester Sprint Cup. His previous two outings in the Western Cape were encouraging. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

RAFFLES has decent recent form lines to his credit. He won his only attempt over this distance. The son of Time Thief tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand.

Race 4

BILLY SPELLBOUND should have finished closer in the Non-Black Type Egoli Mile last time as he was carried inwards at the 350m mark. The son of William Longsword won his maiden over 1800m and will be at home over 2000m. He has cracked a good draw of four which is a big plus. With a bit of luck in running, he can return to winning ways.

AFRICAN TORRENT ran a fair race in the Grade 3 Sea Cottage Stakes last time. The way he won his penultimate start over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course catches the eye. He is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners from his wide draw of ten.

TOP SAIL was an easy winner of his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He raced from a handy position, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

Race 5

RARATONGA ROSE finished 0.2 lengths behind IPSO FACTO in her last start. She is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. She has won three times and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. The daughter of Flower Alley gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand.

IPSO FACTO was given a peach of a ride when winning her last start over this distance on the Inside course. She received a three-pound penalty for that victory and can follow up.

LITTLEMARYSUNSHINE ran on powerfully when winning her last start over 1450m on the Inside course. She tries the 2000m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 6

GIMME A SHOT was a tad disappointing in the Grade 2 Wilgerbosdrift Gauteng Fillies Guineas last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is loaded with class and with just 53kgs on her back, she should give the males a run for their money.

ARAGOSTA was not disgraced when third in the Grade 1 Betway Summer Cup last time. He returns from a well-deserved 15-week break which would have done him the world of good. He has won once and finished third once from three starts over this C&D. He has cracked pole position and cannot be ignored.

OUTOFTHEDARKNESS was running on when third over 1400m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from six starts over this distance. If jumping on terms, he should be right there at the finish.

Race 7

PRINCESS CALLA was not beaten far in the Grade 1 Pongracz Cape Flying Championship last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The 5yo mare has won a Grade 1 event on this course. If all went well with her travels up to the Highveld, she should be too good for this field.

BIG BURN finished 1.5 lengths behind ROLLWITHTHEPUNCHES last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating the pair in the run down to the line. She has won twice and finished second twice from five starts over this C&D.

ROLLWITHTHEPUNCHES was given a peach of a ride when winning the Grade 3 WSB Tommy Hotspur Stakes last time. He has won twice from three starts over this C&D. Denis Schwarz retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.

Race 8

ZEUS ran a fair race in his last start over this C&D. His penultimate victory when winning over this distance on the Vaal Classic course was eye-catching. He is the class horse in this contest and if jumping on terms, he should notch up his sixth career victory.

MARCHINGONTOGETHER finished 0.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

PLATINUM SKY finished 0.2 lengths behind RAISEAHALLELUJAH last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them at the wire. The son of Silvano will be at home over this distance and with Keagan de Melo back in the saddle, he should be right there

Race 9

NAMAQUA BLOSSOM has finished second in her last four starts, the latest of which was over 2600m on the Inside course. She moved up like a winner at the 300m mark that day, but Go Flichity fought back well. The daughter of Flower Alley gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand. She carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and may be rewarded for consistency.

FLYING FIRST CLASS is better than her last start against the males. She has won twice, finished second once and third twice from six starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

CAPETOWN BEAUTY makes the trip up north from KZN. She received a bump leaving the start last time, but finished her race off well. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. She tries the blinkers and if all went well with her travels, she should be involved.

Race 10

TAMARISK TREE received a bump at the 600m mark last time, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. His penultimate run when 2.05 lengths behind Platinum Sky catches the eye. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and from pole position, can return to winning ways.

SUPREME DANCE finished 5.45 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is only 1kg better off at the weights today and that is not enough for the tables to be turned. He has won twice and finished second once from four starts over this distance. He will be at peak fitness and is one of the leading contenders.

WILLOW‘S WISH produced a typical second run after a rest last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He will be cherry-ripe and on best form shown, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest
