Race 1

This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is FULLIAUTOMATIX from the Brett Webber stable. He showed good speed over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time, but was outrun late. He is holding his form well and jockey JP van der Merwe may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.

IRON SKY finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

FLYING BROOMSTICK ran a fair race on debut over 1160m on this course. She was green in running and showed signs of needing the run in the closing stages. The daughter of Crusade would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she may be competitive.

Race 2

FREE MOVEMENT was running on too late when third over 1450m on the Inside course last time. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will love the step up to the mile. He is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field from his widest draw and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

AMERICAN BISCUIT has produced three decent efforts to date. He raced from a handy position over 1800m last time and stayed on at the finish. The son of Captain Of All is a progressive type and should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

MAMBO COME TESIO finished 4.2 lengths behind the top choice on debut. The pair meet on the same weight terms today. The son of Mambo In Seattle would have gained from the experience and should make the natural improvement.

Race 3

TRIDENT KING is a winner of his last two starts over 1400m on this course. He raced from a handy position last time, quickened up well and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The son of Pathfork should have no issues with the step up to the mile and he can notch up the hat-trick.

SEQUOIA challenged strongly in his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course, but found one too good in the form of Timeforthat. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He finished 0.2 lengths behind MERIDIUS, three runs ago. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

MERIDIUS is better than his last start in the Non-Black Type Egoli Mile. On his previous form, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

WOKONDA has good recent form lines to her credit. She was running on when third over 1450m on the Inside course last time. She has finished third twice from three starts over this C&D. Muzi Yeni steps back into the saddle and the combination may find themselves in the winner’s enclosure.

PATON‘S TEARS finished 0.2 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

FOLLOW ME raced wide around the turn over this C&D last time and understandably lacked a finish in the straight. On best form shown, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 5

LUNAR BALLADE finished 0.5 lengths behind BEE IN MY BONNET last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The daughter of Querari will strip a much fitter horse today. With a bit of luck from her awkward draw of nine, she may be the one to beat.

BEE IN MY BONNET followed up her maiden victory with a good second-place finish over 1450m on the Inside course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has plenty of scope and should be involved in the fight to the finish.

GOLDEN SPOON‘S last two starts have been decent. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in her last outing has come out and won since. She has won twice and finished third once from four starts over this C&D. She does have a wide draw of 12 to contend with, but she gets the services of Richard Fourie who will give her all the necessary assistance from the saddle.

Race 6

QUEEN OF SHADOWS finished 0.5 lengths behind CLAFOUTIS last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The daughter of Vercingetorix tries the 1800m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she may be rewarded for consistency.

TERRA TIME finished 1.5 lengths behind CLAFOUTIS last time. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

CLAFOUTIS won a good race in the Grade 3 Acacia Stakes last time. The daughter of Flower Alley is in a good space and merits healthy respect under Richard Fourie.

Race 7

This is a competitive Sycamore Sprint field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is KISS ME CAPTAIN from the Mike and Adam Azzie stable. She ran on well in the Listed Swallow Stakes and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The daughter of Captain Of All is in a good space and can follow up.

ALULA‘S STAR finished 2 lengths behind COLD FACT last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She has won once and finished second twice from five starts over this C&D. The daughter of Red Ray merits healthy respect.

COLD FACT showed good speed when winning the Non-Black Type Bauhinia Handicap. If repeating that effort in this type of field, she can follow up.

Race 8

CHYAVANA got up where it matters most to win his last start over 1160m on this course. He returns from a well-deserved 10-week break. The son of Flower Alley gets the blinkers fitted for the first time. If not too far out of his ground at the halfway mark, he should notch up his sixth career victory.

MINI COOP stayed on when second over 1000m on this course last time. He would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and must be included in all bets.

VEGAS HI RISE finished 0.1 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 0.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.

Race 9

CIAN THE CONQUEROR followed up his debut victory with a good fourth-place finish over 1160m on this course. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was eye-catching. The son of William Longsword will strip a much fitter horse. He looks to be above average and should take a power of beating.

BLUE WATERS is lightly raced with some decent form lines to her credit. She won on debut over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo takes the ride on her return and if not in need of the run, she should give the males a run for their money.

SOUTH BOY stumbled leaving the starting stalls last time, but stayed on nicely at the finish. He has finished second three times and third once from as many starts on this course. The son of Equal Stripes will be mowing down the frontrunners
