Race 1
VIRGIN RIVER produced two good second-place finishes before given a lengthy 47-week break. She would have strengthened up during her time off the track and if not in need of the run, she can shed her maiden tag.
ARCTIC COMMANDER stayed on when second in her last start over 1400m on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack. She drops back in trip and if confirming her recent improvement, she should pose a threat.
WONDER I DO has produced three fair runs to date. She showed some signs of needing her comeback run over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter.
Race 2
WALLED GARDEN produced an encouraging debut effort over 1200m at the Vaal. He lost a length leaving the start, raced green but stayed on at the finish. He found betting support that day which suggests that he was showing good work at home. He would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, he may be the one to beat.
PRESLEY has produced two decent efforts to date. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in his last start has come out and won since. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.
WILLIAM BLAKE ran a fair race on debut over 1200m at the Vaal. He returns from a 19-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. If not in need of the run, he should make the natural progression.
Race 3
DHONI was not disgraced when third in the Non-Black Type Farm Sale Stakes last time. He returns from a 10-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will love the rise to the mile. He is likely to be settled near the rear of the field and will be mowing down the frontrunners.
EMBLEM OF WAR has produced two good second-place finishes to date. He raced from a handy position over 1800m last time and stayed on at the finish. He is a progressive type and should be competitive.
THUNEE PLAYA produced a promising debut effort over 1450m on the Inside course. He would have come on from the run and should love the rise to the mile. With the natural improvement that is expected, he should be involved at the finish.
Race 4
PURPLE PITCHER is a winner of his last three starts. He quickened up well to win the Non-Black Type Bloodstock SA Sales Cup last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He tries the 1800m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can notch up his fourth career victory.
WE ARE THE LOGANS ran a good race when third in the Grade 1 Premiers Champion Stakes last time. He would have strengthened up during his 14-week break. If not in need of the run, he should pose a massive threat.
HOUSE OF ROMANOV is the stable companion of the second choice. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. He carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and may be hard to peg back.
Race 5
ABSOLUTE VALUE has consistent form lines to his credit. He set the pace over 2600m last time and tired late. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won twice, finished second twice and third twice from as many starts over this distance. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.
RULE BOOK won a good race in his last start over 2600m on the Inside Course. He finished 1.25 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 1.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may have to settle for the same result.
AFRAAD won a game race in his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. He has interestingly changed stables since that outing. Jason Gates retains the ride and he cannot be ignored.
Race 6
MOONSHININGTHROUGH has good recent form lines to her credit. She showed good speed over this distance on the Inside course last time, tried hard but found one too good in the form of Captain Hindsight. She has won twice from four starts on this course. She shows good speed in her races and can go one better.
GOLDEN SICKLE won a good race in her last start over this distance on the Inside course. She won her only attempt over this C&D. She is the best-weighted runner in this contest and is one of the leading contenders.
ICE STAR’S last three starts have been good. She has won once, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. She carries a handy galloping mass of 53kgs and should run a positive race.
Race 7
LITIGATION finished 3.65 lengths behind ATTICUS FINCH last time. He is 3kgs better off at the weights today. He has won twice and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. He is having his peak run today and from his good draw of two, he is capable of returning to winning ways.
ATTICUS FINCH is a winner of his last three starts. He set the pace over 1600m last time, found another kick and drew clear of the opposition. He is in a very good space and should be involved in the fight to the finish.
SON OF RAJ is better than his last two starts at Hollywoodbets Greyville. He is unbeaten from three starts on this course. The 18-week break would have done him the world of good and if fit, he should show improvement.
Race 8
WILLIAM ROBERTSON ran a fair race in the Grade 2 Betway Joburg Spring Challenge last time. It must be noted that Main Defender has come out and won again since. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts over this C&D. On his best form shown, he should be too good for this field.
MERCANTOUR finished 2.4 lengths behind CHYAVANA last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.
MRS BROWNING won a good race in her last start over 1450m on the Inside course. She finished 2.25 lengths behind MISS DAISY, three runs ago. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. She won her only attempt over this C&D and should give the males a run for their money.
Race 9
CHASING HAPPINESS was super-impressive when winning on debut over 1000m on the Inside course. She lost a length leaving the start, but showed a good turn of foot and won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Rafeef takes on stronger, but she could be anything and can remain unbeaten.
GOLDEN ASPEN stayed on when third in her last start over 1200m at the Vaal. She has won once and finished third twice from four starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.
STORMY CHOICE tried hard in her last start, but found one too good in the form of Inventrix. Calvin Habib retains the ride and should be hard to peg back.
Race 10
NEERAH won a good race when shedding her maiden tag at the third time of asking. She returns from an 18-week break, during which time she changed stables. The daughter of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and if not in need of the run, she can follow up.
INVENTRIX’S last three starts have been good. She showed good speed over 1000m last time, but was outrun late by Chrome Tourmaline. Piere Strydom steps back into the saddle and the pair merit healthy respect.
JASIRI caught the eye when winning on debut over 1000m at the Vaal. She returns from a 21-week break, during which time she would have strengthened up. She does take on stronger, but could be anything and may be up to the task at hand
