Race 1

EMPRESS GAME is the best bet on the programme. She has produced two good runs over this distance, the latest of which was at the Vaal. She should have won last time as she ducked outwards at the 150m mark. The daughter of Pathfork meets the right field today and with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride, she should take a power of beating. 

TYSON THE BRAVE raced from a prominent position over this distance at the Vaal last time and stayed on to finish third. The son of Vercingetorix is a progressive type and should the top choice fluff her lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

BREATH OF MAGIC was a tad disappointing in his last start at the Vaal. His penultimate run when third over this distance on the Inside course was encouraging. If finding the form of that race, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 2

SMITH AND WESSON was not disgraced when fifth in the Non-Black Type SABC Sport Durban Dash last time. He raced from just off the pace and stayed on at the finish. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. Three of his four career victories have come over this distance. The son of The United States will be mowing down the frontrunners. 

COSMIC STAR is better than his last start over 1200m on the Inside course. He was super impressive when winning his penultimate outing over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course. If finding the form of that race, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice. 

WINGS OF NIKE has decent recent form lines to her credit. She runs well for jockey JP van der Merwe and should give the males a run for their money.

Race 3

WAITFORGREENLIGHT has finished second in her last two starts under S’manga Khumalo. She raced from just off the pace last time, but found one too good in the form of Happy Analia. The daughter of Gimmethegreenlight is back against her own sex today and can go one better.

WHITE HILLS is better than her last start over 1200m as she was reported to be fatigued. She returns from a 14-week break which may have done her the world of good. She has placed in all three attempts over this distance and if fit, she should be right there.

 COCKTAIL GIRL ran a fair race when fourth over this distance at the Vaal last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the form has been franked. The daughter of Visionaire is a progressive type and may have more to come.

Race 4

GOLDEN SICKLE is having her first run for the Tony Peter stable. She is better than her last start in the Listed Lady’s Slipper. The daughter of Vercingetorix won her only attempt over this distance. She has ability and may be the one to side with. 

SAMOA has good recent form lines to her credit. She raced from a prominent position over 1200m at the Vaal last time and stayed on to finish third. The 8yo mare is enjoying her racing and merits healthy respect. 

FENNEC FOX finished 2.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. She is 2kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 5

COVERT OPERATOR has good consistent form lines to his name. He produced a strong finish when second over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. He cast a shoe in running that day which didn’t help his chances. He meets a similar line-up this afternoon and can notch up his fourth career victory. 

TRE AMICI finished 0.45 lengths behind IRON SKY last time. He is 3.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The son of Vercingetorix shows good speed in his races and may be hard to peg back. 

 IRON SKY won a game race in his last start over this distance on the Inside course. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. He is in a good space and must be included in all bets.

Race 6

PRAGMATIST finished 0.5 lengths behind BRAVE VIKING last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line. He would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. If Gavin Lerena is able to switch him off early, he can go one better.

 BRAVE VIKING won a good race in his last start over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He is in a good space and merits healthy respect. 

TIZONA rallied late when second over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. He is drawn wide once again and is likely to be settled near the rear of the field. He will be mowing down the frontrunners.

Race 7

ANGEL OF WAR has good recent form lines to his credit. He raced from a handy position over this C&D last time and stayed on to finish third. The son of Act Of War meets a similar type of field this afternoon and may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

 CAPTAIN OF GRIT won a good race in his last start over 1500m at the Vaal. He has won once and finished second twice from six starts over this distance. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and from pole position, he should pose a massive threat. 

CALIBRE CREST has good consistent form lines to his credit. He took the lead at the 200m mark last time, but was outrun by Meridius. The son of Twice Over tries the blinkers for the first time which may have the desired effect. His last victory came under jockey S’manga Khumalo.

Race 8

QUEEN OF SHADOWS should have finished closer to the winner last time as she was switched for running room at the 200m mark. She has won once and finished third four times from six starts over this distance. The daughter of Vercingetorix takes a drop-in class and with a bit of luck in running, she may be the one to beat. 

CELTIC RUMOURS is lightly raced with good form lines to her credit. She won a very good race in her penultimate start over this C&D. The daughter of Vercingetorix is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field from the widest draw and she will be mowing down the frontrunners.

WOKONDA is better than her last start as she was reported to be not striding out. Her form prior to that outing was consistent. Piere Strydom takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most. 

Race 9

TRUMP MY QUEEN is much better than her last start over 2000m on this course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She won her only attempt over this distance and is suited to the Standside course. She takes a drop-in class and if putting her best foot forward, she may find herself in the winner’s enclosure. 

CALLMEWHENUNEEDME showed pace over 1200m at the Vaal last time, but found one too good in the form of Francine. The daughter of Master Of My Fate tries the 1400m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should be one of the leading contenders. 

SAVE THE QUEEN was in need of her last start against male company. She would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. With luck in running, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest
