Race 1

WAITFORGREENLIGHT raced from a prominent position over this distance at the Vaal last time, but found one too good in the form of No Filter. She does meet the right field this afternoon and with S’manga Khumalo retaining the ride, she should be the one to beat.

HAPPY ANALIA finished 2.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result.

BABYLON is an unraced son of Global View from the Johan Janse van Vuuren stable with Diego De Gouveia in the saddle. He is related to two-time winner New Abbey. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers.

Race 2

CONTRA FISCUM produced an encouraging debut effort over this distance at the Vaal. She jumped inwards leaving the start, but finished her race off nicely. The daughter of Potala Palace would have gained from the experience and with the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.

SI VELOCE took on winners in her last start over 1160m on the Standside course. Her penultimate run when third over this distance on the Vaal Classic course catches the eye. She tries the blinkers for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand.

DAMOSTAR was a tad disappointing in her last start over 1200m at the Vaal. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The drop to 1000m may suit her well and she can improve with S’manga Khumalo in the saddle.

Race 3

LADY CHATTERLEY was in need of her debut effort over 1200m at the Vaal. She took time to find her feet, but stayed on at the business end. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Rafeef would have gained from the experience and will love the rise to the mile. With the natural improvement that is expected, she may be the one to side with.

AZALEAS FOR ALL ran a fair race on debut over 1200m at the Vaal. She too, will enjoy the rise to 1600m and should make the natural progression.

KHATEERA has produced two fair runs to date. It must be noted that multiple horses from her last form line have come out and won since. She steps up to the mile and with Keagan de Melo in the saddle, she should have good improvement to come.

Race 4

PIED KINGFISHER has fair form lines to his credit. He lost a length leaving the start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time, but stayed on to finish third. The son of What A Winter gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep his mind on the task at hand. If jumping on terms, he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

THE FRONT LINE found betting support when third in his last start over 1450m on the Vaal Classic course. The son of Lancaster Bomber will love the rise to the mile and from pole position, he should be one of the leading contenders.

LEAO ALADO showed very good improvement when second over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. He is a progressive type and from his handy draw of two, he should have more to come.

Race 5

AMERICAN GRAYSON was a tad disappointing in his last start over 1400m at the Vaal. He produced an encouraging debut effort over 1450m on this course. The manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day suggests that he will love the rise to 2600m. He has plenty of scope and with Muzi Yeni in the saddle, he can win in this line-up.

LADY DYNAMO showed massive improvement when third in her last start over 2000m on the Vaal Classic course. She tries the 2600m with Marco van Rensburg retaining the ride and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she should pose a threat.

LA DREAMER hails from the visiting Timothy Pretorius stable. She should have no issues with the 2600m and on best form shown, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 6

This is a competitive Middle Stakes field and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is MAMBO COME TESIO from the Mike de Kock stable. He won a good race over 2400m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He takes a rise in class, but carries a light mass of 50kgs and should be up to the task at hand.

OPERA GLASS ran a fair race over 2000m last time. She was an easy winner of her penultimate run over 2400m on the Standside course. She carries a handy galloping mass of 51kgs and should give the males a run for their money.

WHITE FANG set the pace over this C&D last time, found another kick and drew clear of the opposition. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and if not in need of the run, he can follow up.

Race 7

BARTHOLDI was running on when fourth in the Grade 1 Golden Horse Sprint last time. He has won twice from three starts on this course. The 5yo gelding has won over this distance in the past. Craig Zackey retains the ride and the son of Act Of War can notch up his sixth career victory.

EYE OF THE PROPHET may not have seen out the 2450m in the Grade 1 WSB SA Derby last time. His form prior to that outing was good. He returns from a well-deserved 11-week break and from pole position, merits healthy respect.

VANDERBILT‘S last two starts have been fair. He is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. The son of What A Winter carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and may be hard to peg back.

Race 8

PERFECT WITNESS bounced back to best form in her last start over 1400m at the Vaal. She received a bump leaving the start, but raced from a handy position and quickened up well. She has won once and finished second twice from eight starts over this distance. With a bit of luck from the widest draw, she should go close to winning.

QUEEN OF SHADOWS ran a decent race in the Listed Syringa Handicap last time. She received a bump leaving the start, but stayed on nicely at the finish. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

GREEK MISS took the lead at the 350m mark last time and held on where it matters most. Two of her four career victories have come over this distance. She jumps from a good draw of three and merits obvious inclusion.

Race 9

WE‘VE GOT TONIGHT was in need of his comeback run over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He would have come on from the outing and should strip much fitter. The son of What A Winter takes a drop in class and can find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

WAQAAS ran a good race when second over this distance at the Vaal. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has won once, finished second twice and third once from nine starts over this C&D. He is carded to race on 15 June 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

GREGOR MACGREGOR set the pace over 1450m last time, but was caught late by Maboneng. The blinkers seem to have done the trick and he may be hard to peg back
