Race 1

LONGSWORD showed good improvement in his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. He set the pace, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Nazare. The son of William Longsword is a progressive type and in this field, he should go one better.

FEEL ALL RIGHT did not settle in the early stages of his last start over 1600m on the Inside course. He drops to the 1400m and gets the blinkers fitted. If Wesley Marwing is able to switch him off early, he should pose a threat to the top choice.

LIVEBYTHESWORD was in need of his debut effort over 1200m at the Vaal. The son of Master Of My Fate would have gained from the experience and should love the rise to 1400m. With the natural improvement that is expected, he can finish in the first three.

Race 2

BAVARIAN BEAUTY was an easy winner in her stable debut over this C&D. She showed good pace and despite hanging in the closing stages, she won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of Querari looks to have ability and she should be the horse to beat.

NO FILTER took on stronger in the Grade 2 Zulu Kingdom Explorer Golden Slipper last time. She was an easy winner in her penultimate start over 1000m at the Vaal. The drop to 1160m should suit her well and she merits healthy respect.

JUST BE LEKKER was a shock winner on debut over this C&D. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The daughter of William Longsword takes on stronger, but she could be anything and may be up to the task at hand.

Race 3

BACK IN BUSINESS ran a good race when third over 1200m on the Inside course, behind Dave The King. He returns from a 12-week break, during which time he was gelded. The son of William Longsword is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D. If getting away to a clean start, he should find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

SOUTHERN SKIES is better than her last start in the Non-Black Type SABC Sport Durban Dash as the jockey reported something to be amiss. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is back on the Highveld and should give the males a run for their money.

POWER BROKER ran a good race when second in his first run for the Tony Peter stable. He showed good speed, but was outrun late by Captain Hindsight. He will strip a much fitter horse and may be competitive.

Race 4

FUSHIMI INARI showed good improvement when second over this distance at the Vaal last time. He lost a length leaving the start, but ran on well and challenged strongly all the way to the line. The son of Danon Platina is a progressive type and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he should be the horse to beat.

HOTARUBI has finished a head behind the winner in his last two starts with the cheekpieces fitted. The manner in which he finishes off his races suggests that he will enjoy the rise to the mile. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME is a well-bred son of Master Of My Fate who has produced three decent efforts. It must be noted that the horse that finished third in his last start has come out and won since. He will be at home over the mile and should strip much fitter.

Race 5

ROYAL GUIDE followed up his maiden victory with a good second-place finish over this C&D. He challenged strongly that day, but was outrun late by Celestial City. The son of Gimmethegreenlight has class about him and he should be the one to beat.

PEWTER SKY hails from the in-form Paul Matchett stable. He ran a good race when fourth over this distance on the Hollywoodbets Greyville polytrack last time. If repeating that effort in this type of field, he should go close to winning.

NAPOLEON was a tad disappointing in his last start over this C&D. If finding the form of his penultimate effort, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 6

EYE OF THE PROPHET ran on powerfully when winning his last start over 1450m on the Inside course. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He has won three times and finished second once from as many starts over this distance. He would have come on from his last outing and can notch up his fifth career victory.

PEACH DAIQUIRI ran a fair race in the Grade 1 Woolavington 2000 last time. She raced wide around the turn and cast a shoe in running which didn’t help her chances. It is encouraging that Luyolo Mxothwa steps back into the saddle and the pair merit healthy respect.

GILDED BUTTERFLY was not disgraced when sixth in the Grade 1 Woolavington 2000 last time. She has won twice and finished third once from seven starts on this course. If jumping on terms, she should be right there at the finish.

Race 7

MAMAQUERA‘S last three starts have been decent. She was slow into stride over 1600m on the Inside course last time, but the manner in which she ran on at the finish was encouraging. She has won twice and finished third once from seven starts over this C&D. The 6yo mare gets the services of 2.5kgs claiming apprentice Donald Geerthsen and with a bit of luck in running, she can return to winning ways.

IVY LEAGUE followed up her maiden victory with a good third-place finish over 1450m on the Inside course last time. She set the pace that day and stayed on at the business end. The daughter of What A Winter takes on older rivals, but has scope and may be up to the task at hand

BEGUILING may not have seen out the 1800m in her last start. She takes a drop in the ratings and with Denis Schwarz retaining the ride, she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 8

IN THE BEGINNING took on stronger in the Listed Syringa Handicap last time and is better than that effort suggests. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She has won once and finished third once from three starts over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo steps back into the saddle and she may be the one to side with.

WHAT A HONEY showed good signs of a form return in her last start over 1200m on the Inside course. The manner in which she ran on at the business end that day was encouraging. She runs well for Craig Zackey and should be competitive.

SILVER WINTER found extra when winning her last start over 1000m at the Vaal. She has won twice and finished second once from six starts on this course. She shows good speed in her races and may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.

Race 9

TUSCAN GOLD‘S last two starts have been good. He is having his first run for the in-form Tony Peter stable. Craig Zackey takes the ride and if settled into his new surroundings, he should notch up his second career victory.

AFTER HOURS has good recent form lines to his credit. He raced from a handy position over 1450m on the Inside course last time, tried hard but found one too good in the form of Funky Music. He is carded to race on 11 July 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

COMING IN HOT finished 1.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 1kg better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line
