Race 1

This is a weak Maiden Plate and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is COUNT YOUR CHANCES from the Fanie Bronkhorst stable. She was touched off in her last start over 1400m at the Vaal. She finished third in her only attempt on this course. The daughter of Count Dubois meets the right field today and she should go one better.

HOLOCENE’S last two starts have been fair. He lost two lengths leaving the start last time, but stayed on to finish fourth. He has been gelded since that outing which may have done the trick. He is carded to race on 08 June 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

I’M A MAN has been disappointing in his last two starts. He finished second under Phelisile Mongqawa, three runs ago. On best form shown, he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 2

BOLD FORTUNE is better than her recent form suggests. She has won three times and finished third twice from 11 starts on this course. The daughter of Flower Alley continues to drop in the ratings and back against her own sex, she is capable of returning to winning ways.

RARATONGA ROSE has been disappointing in her last two starts. She has won three times, finished second once and third once from as many starts over this distance. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

PATON’S TEARS has not finished too far off the winner in recent outings. She finished second in her only attempt over this distance. The 5yo mare will be mowing down the frontrunners. She is carded to race on 13 June 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 3

CICADIDAE produced a decent debut effort over 1000m on the Inside course. She was green in running, but the manner in which she stayed on at the finish was encouraging. The daughter of Querari would have gained from the experience and will love the extra distance on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should find herself in the winner’s enclosure. UNITED WE STAND was a tad disappointing on the Hollywoodbets Greyville Polytrack last time. Her penultimate run when second over 1200m on the Inside course was encouraging. Philasande Mxoli steps back into the saddle and she is one of the leading contenders.

PRIMROSE PATH tried hard in her last start, but found one too good in the form of Sparkling Jubilee. Calvin Habib retains the ride and if repeating that effort, she should be competitive.

Race 4

DR FAUSTUS made the expected natural improvement when second over 1200m at Hollywoodbets Greyville last time. He should have finished closer to the winner that day as he hung in the closing stages. The son of Oratorio is a progressive type and with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride, he can go one better.

VIVA DE JANEIRO is the stable companion of the top choice. He rallied late when third over 1200m on the Vaal Classic course last time. Keagan de Melo retains the ride and the combination merit healthy respect.

MAGIC PRINCE’S last two starts have been fair. He lost a length leaving the start last time, but stayed on to finish second. If jumping on terms, he may be the one to spoil the Van Vuuren party.

Race 5

CALL TO GLORY was a beaten odds-on favourite in her last start over 1400m at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. She set the pace that day, but was outrun late by Faizah. The daughter of Kingman is having her peak run today and will be cherry-ripe. She should love the step up to the mile and can get it right.

MY SOUL MATE has produced two good efforts to date. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. If jumping on terms, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

INEVITABLE ran on well when third over 1400m at the Vaal last time. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will love the rise to the mile. She will be at peak fitness and must be included in all bets.

Race 6

CELESTIAL CITY was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the horse that finished third that day has come out and won since. He has finished second twice from as many starts on this course. The son of Silvano always gives of his best and he can notch up his fourth career victory.

BOB’S YOUR UNCLE showed good guts when third over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course last time. He finished 0.25 lengths behind the top choice in his penultimate run. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

ROYAL GUIDE was ultra-impressive when winning his maiden over this C&D last time. He does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 7

WOKONDA has decent consistent form lines to her credit. She raced from a handy position over 1450m on the Inside course last time, moved up well but was outrun late. She has finished second once and third twice from four starts over this C&D. She jumps from a go

moved up well over 1800m on this course last time, but was caught late by Special Charm. She takes on stronger company, but carries a handy galloping mass of 54kgs and should be up to the task at hand.

SIMPLE SIMPLE ran a fair race over 1600m on the Inside course last time. She finished 1.95 lengths behind CRIMSON PRINCESS in her penultimate run. She is 4.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

Race 8

BALLROOM BLISS has shown good signs of a form return in her last two starts. She stayed on when third over 1800m on the Inside course last time. The 5yo mare has dropped to a competitive rating and with Gavin Lerena retaining the ride, she may be the one to side with in this field.

ISLAND BEAUTY did not settle in the early stages of her last start over 1800m on the Inside course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She finished second in her only attempt on this course. If Kabelo Matsunyane is able to switch her off early, she should be competitive in this line-up.

ANGEL’S WISH should have finished closer to the winner last time as she hung in the closing stages. She is back against her own sex and if keeping on a straight line, she can feature
