Race 1

EFFICIENT TRADER may not have seen out the mile in her last start on this course. She raced from a handy position, but did not go on with the effort. Her penultimate run when third over this distance on the Vaal Classic course was encouraging. The blinkers and tongue-tie seem to have done the trick and she can shed her maiden tag in this line-up.

WRITTENINTHESAND stayed on when fourth over 1400m on the Standside course last time. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick on the daughter of Master Of My Fate. She gets the blinkers fitted for the first time which should keep her mind on the task at hand.

SOUTHERN STYLE‘S last three starts have been fair. She finished third in her only attempt over this C&D. The daughter of Canford Cliffs placed in her only C&D attempt and she should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 2

FIRE ‘N FLAMES ran a good race when second in the Listed Storm Bird Stakes last time. He showed good speed that day, but was outrun late by American Graffiti. The son of Fire Away tries the 1200m for the first time and if seeing out the extra furlong on offer, he should be hard to peg back.

PURE PREDATOR was given a peach of a ride when winning on debut over 1160m on the Standside course. The son of New Predator would have come on from the run and could be anything. Gavin Lerena retains the ride and he can remain unbeaten.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME is an unraced son of Master Of My Fate from the Mike de Kock stable with Craig Zackey in the saddle. He is related to multiple winners including Boogie Shoes, Zapatillas and Shoemaker. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first timers.

Race 3

ICE STAR fought hard for her debut victory over 1000m on the Vaal Classic course. The daughter of William Longsword found betting support that day which suggests that she was showing good work at home. She could be anything and can follow up with another victory.

GLOBAL THUNDER was an easy winner at the second time of asking. The daughter of Global View is progressive and if seeing out the extra furlong on offer, she should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

HEIRLOOM has placed in all four starts to date. The manner in which she finishes off her races suggests that she will love the rise to 1200m. Gavin Lerena takes the ride and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of her where it matters most.

Race 4

RAPTOR ISLAND has good recent form lines to his credit. He set the pace over 1400m on the Standside course last time, but found one too good in the form of Brave Viking. Trainer Tony Peter is in good form and in this type of field, the son of Dynasty should go one better here.

PHANTOMOFTHEFOREST is still a maiden after 12 starts, but has decent consistent form lines to his credit. He is likely to be switched off near the rear of the field from his wide draw of ten and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

SKY VELOCITY ran a fair race in a workriders race last time. She stayed on at the finish, but found one too good in the form of Bushveld. Keagan de Melo steps back into the saddle and she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 5

is is a weak Classified Stakes and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is BLOOMINGTON from the Fabian Habib stable. He showed some signs of a form return over this C&D last time. The manner in which he finished off his race that day was encouraging. All three career victories have come on this course and with S’manga Khumalo back in the saddle, he should be competitive.

BURMESE TIARA set the pace over 2000m last time, but was caught late by Last Cheer. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won twice and finished second twice from five starts on this course. She is carded to race on 09 March 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

WELCOME BREEZE stayed on when fifth over 1200m on this course last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. She will love the rise to the mile and can earn another cheque for her patrons.

Race 6

TULIP TREE ran on from last when winning her last start over 1600m on this course. The daughter of What A Winter won her only attempt over this C&D. She received a six-pound penalty for her last win. She jumps from pole position and can notch up her fourth career victory.

CAPE LIGHTS finished 1.75 lengths behind the top choice last time. She is 2.5kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. However, TULIP TREE won easier than the official margin suggests and she may still have the upper hand.

CRIMSON PRINCESS finished 2.5 lengths behind the top choice in the race referred to above. She is 1.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result.

Race 7

CALL THE WIND was running on when third over 2000m on this course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She has won once and finished third once from three starts over this distance. The daughter of Twice Over has dropped to a competitive rating and in this field, she may notch up her first South African win.

ENGLISH PRIMROSE set the pace over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course last time and fought hard to hold all challengers at bay. The daughter of Flower Alley tries the 1800m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, she can follow up.

ISLAND BEAUTY was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over 1600m on this course. The manner in which she finished off her race that day suggests that she will be at home over the 1800m. She does take on stronger, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 8

MONSIEUR CHEVELLE ran on well when touched off in his last start over 2400m on the Vaal Classic course. He has won once, finished second once and third once from six starts over this distance. The son of Admiral Kitten runs well for Mark Khan and despite his big mass of 62kgs, he is capable of going one better.

OYSTER KING was doing his best work late when fifth over 1800m on this course last time. He has won twice, finished second four times and third once from 15 starts on this track. S’manga Khumalo steps into the saddle and he may be able to coax that little bit extra out of him where it matters most.

LUTHULI finished 1.25 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 0.5kgs better off at the weights today and should finish closer as a result. The son of Crusade tries the 2000m for the first time and if seeing out the extra distance on offer, he can earn a cheque.

Race 9

MCEBISI‘S last two starts have been fair. He returns from a 12-week break which may have done him the world of good. He has won once, finished second once and third once from four starts on this course. The son of Byword takes a slight drop in class and if not in need of the run, he can return to winning ways.

PENDRAGON was running on when second over the minimum trip on this course last time. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

POWER RANGER stayed on when third over 1160m on the Standside course last time. He was slow into stride, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish was encouraging. If not too far out of his ground at the halfway mark, he should be involved in the fight to the finish
