Race 1

THREE BELLS showed good improvement in her last start over 1500m at the Vaal, under this work rider. The manner in which she stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth has come out and won since. If confirming her recent improvement, she may be the one to beat in this line-up.

MISS CHRISTMAS ran a fair race over this distance on the Inside course last time. If finding the form of her penultimate run, she should be involved in the fight to the finish. She is carded to race on 11 May 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

SPRING OF ELIXIR has shown signs of needing her last two starts over 2000m. The drop to 1600m may suit her well and she will be at peak fitness. She is carded to race on 11 May 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 2

ROYAL GUIDE should have won his last start over this C&D as he hung in the final 400m. The son of Gimmethegreenlight is a progressive type and if keeping on a straight line, he should take a power of beating in this line-up.

ARCHIMIDES’ last two starts have been fair after returning from a 16-week break. The son of Flower Alley tries the mile and will be cherry-ripe. Should the top choice fluff his lines, he may be the one to pick up the pieces.

KAMBULU was his own worst enemy in his comeback run over this C&D last time. It is encouraging that Piere Strydom retains the ride and if switching off early, he is capable of fighting out the finish.

Race 3

MAGIC PRINCE raced from a prominent position over 1200m on the Inside course last time, but found one too good in the form of Smelting. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. In this type of field, he can go one better.

SAKA GOLD stayed on when second over 1200m on the Inside course last time. He is back on a straight course and is one of the leading contenders with Muzi Yeni retaining the ride. He is carded to race on 11 May 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

TURBO POWER is an unraced son of Twice Over from the Sean Tarry stable with Keagan de Melo in the saddle. If not too green, he should start his career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to him and the other first-timers.

Race 4

DUENNA took time to find her feet on debut, but the manner in which she finished off her race that day was encouraging. The daughter of Fire Away would have come on from the run and will love the extra 160m on offer. With the natural improvement that is expected, she should be the one to beat.

FRANCINE is an unraced daughter of Silvano from the Mike and Adam Azzie yard with JP van der Merwe in the saddle. She is related to three-time winner Florentine. If not in need of the run, she should start her career on a positive note. The betting market will be the best guide with regards to her chances.

SIMPLY MAGIC’S last start can be ignored as she was reported to be not striding out. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. She will be at peak fitness and on previous form, must be included in all bets.

Race 5

EYE OF THE PROPHET is better than his last start in the Grade 1 WSB SA Derby. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. He has won three times and finished second once from four starts over this distance including a victory in the Grade 2 WSB Gauteng Guineas. He carries a handy galloping mass of 53.5kgs and can notch up his fourth career victory.

SAFE PASSAGE was bumped leaving the start in the Grade 2 Independent On Saturday Drill Hall Stakes last time and never got into the race. He has won twice and finished third once from as many starts over this C&D. If this run has not come too soon, he should be involved.

TEAM GOLD stayed on when third over 1450m on the Inside course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and cannot be ignored.

Race 6

QUANTUM THEORY is much better than his last start in the Grade 3 Europa Point Man O’ War Sprint. He was reported to be coughing that day and has been gelded since the outing. The son of Querari has finished second twice from as many starts over this C&D. He is the best-weighted runner and if not in need of the run, he should be the horse to beat.

CLEAVER GREENE was in need of his comeback run over this C&D last time. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. On his previous form, he should go close to winning.

NOW I GOT YOU‘s last two starts have been fair. The 19-week break would have done him the world of good and if not in need of the run, he can earn a cheque for his patrons.

Race 7

COLDHARDSTARE was running on when second over 1000m on the Inside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She won a good race in her penultimate start over 1200m. Keagan de Melo steps back into the saddle and she may be the one to side with.

WHAT A HONEY took the lead at the 150m mark last time, but was outrun late. The daughter of What A Winter would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. She is back against her own sex and should be involved.

ROCKETS RED GLARE was doing her best work late over 1200m at the Vaal last time. She has won twice from five starts over this C&D. She takes a drop in class and cannot be ignored.

Race 8

TIME FOR CHARITY finished 1.5 lengths behind SAMOA last time. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. The daughter of Time Thief is having her peak run today and she will be cherry-ripe. She shows good speed in her races and may be hard to peg back.

TIZ MAGIC showed good signs of a form return over 1200m at the Vaal last time. She has dropped to a competitive rating and if confirming her recent improvement, she should pose a threat.

SAMOA was an easy winner of her last start over 1000m on this course. She finished 1.5 lengths behind the second choice in her penultimate run. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and she may have to settle for the same result
