Race 1

COURAGEOUS took on winners in the Listed Ruffian Stakes last time. It must be noted that the horses that finished second and third that day have come out and won since. Her first two career outings on the Vaal Classic course were decent. The daughter of Canford Cliffs should love the rise to the mile and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, she can shed her maiden tag.

SPRING IN HEAVEN finished her last start over 1450m well. She finished 1.3 lengths behind SOLDIER’S EYE in her penultimate start. She is 3kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned.

SOLDIER‘S EYE produced a strong finish when winning her last start over 1450m on this course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. The daughter of Rabada is a progressive type and being the only winner in the race, she merits healthy respect.

Race 2

MISS CHRISTMAS ran a good race when second in her last start over 1500m at the Vaal. She raced from a handy position and rallied late. The daughter of Master Of My Fate finished third in her only attempt on this course. The mile will be right up her alley and she can go one better.

IDABELLE showed good improvement in her last start over this C&D. She received a bump leaving the start, but stayed on well at the finish. The daughter of The United States is having her peak run and will be cherry-ripe. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

UNYIELDING has finished fourth in her last four starts. If Keagan de Melo is able to switch her off early, she can earn another cheque for her patrons.

Race 3

DAMNED IF I DO showed some signs of needing her last start over this C&D. She raced from a prominent position and tired in the latter stages. The daughter of Rafeef would have come on from the run and will strip much fitter. Muzi Yeni takes the ride and in this line-up, she is capable of shedding her maiden tag.

GHOST SHIP is better than her last start over 1160m on the Standside course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. The 12-week break would have done her the world of good and if finding the form of her first two runs, she should be competitive.

SOUTHERN STYLE is still a maiden after 18 starts, but has some fair form lines to her credit. The blinkers have been re-fitted and she can earn another cheque for her patrons

Race 4

This is a competitive Merit Rated 96 Handicap and caution is advised. IKIGAI has shown signs of needing his last two starts after returning from a 19-week break. The 6yo horse has dropped in the ratings. Piere Strydom takes the ride and he will be at peak fitness. On best form shown, he is capable of notching up his sixth career victory.

GOLIATH HERON has good consistent form lines to his credit. The 10-week break would have done him the world of good and if not in need of the run, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

FOSTINOVO ran a fair race in his comeback run over 1100m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He will strip a much fitter horse and with just 53.5kgs on his back, he should have a say.

Race 5

COSMIC STAR was ultra-impressive when shedding his maiden tag at the second time of asking. He showed good speed, found another kick and won with a ton in hand. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. The son of Erupt takes on stronger, but he looks to be above average and should be up to the task at hand.

COVERT OPERATOR has consistent form lines to his credit. He stayed on when fourth over this C&D last time. He jumps from a good draw of two and merits healthy respect.

GREAT TIMES ran a good race when third over this C&D last time. The apprentice claim will help and he is one of the leading contenders.

Race 6

AVOONTOAST was an easy winner when shedding her maiden tag over 1400m on the Standside course last time. Despite shifting around in the closing stages, she won with a ton in hand. The daughter of Twice Over takes on stronger, but she has plenty of scope and looks to have class about her. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and the combination can follow up.

WOKONDA has good recent form lines to her credit. It must be noted that the form of her last outing has been franked. She has won twice, finished second once and third twice from as many starts over this C&D. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

PRINCESS PHILIPPA is better than her last start as she was reported to be fatigued. On her previous form, she should be right there at the finish.

Race 7

TEAM GOLD finished 0.75 lengths behind FOREVER MINE last time. He is 2kgs better off at the weights today and that should be enough for the tables to be turned. He has won three times, finished second three times and third once from eight starts on this course. The son of Twice Over jumps from pole position and on best form shown, he can return to winning ways.

FOREVER MINE stayed on nicely when fourth behind Under Your Spell in the Grade 2 WSB Hawaii Stakes. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is having his peak run today and will be cherry- ripe. He is likely to use his early gate speed to get across without using up too much energy and may be hard to peg back.

CAPTAIN PEG ran on well when winning her last start over 1400m on the Standside course. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. She is unbeaten from two starts over this C&D and should give the males a run for their money.

Race 8

NAPOLEON raced from a handy position over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time, fought hard but found one too good in the form of Bob’s Your Uncle. He finished third in his penultimate run over this C&D. The tongue-tie seems to have done the trick on the son of Rafeef and he may find himself in the winner’s enclosure.

MCEBISI finished 0.1 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them in the run down to the line.

LIBECCIO stayed on when third over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course last time. The drop to the mile should not pose a concern and he can earn another cheque for his patrons
