BET HERE ON THE DURBAN JULY

Race 1

NEERAH is one of the better bets on today’s card. She made the expected natural improvement when third over 1000m on the Standside course last time. She showed good speed and tried hard all the way to the line. She steps up to the 1200m and if seeing out the extra furlong on offer, she should take a power of beating.

TOGETHER AGAIN‘S last three starts have been fair. She is at her best over this distance and may be the one to fill the exacta spot.

WORLD HERITAGE finished 0.75 lengths behind the second choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and there should not be much separating them at the wire.

Race 2

RED BOMBER faced much stronger in the Grade 1 Gold Medallion last time. He was ultra-impressive when winning on debut over 1160m on the Standside course. He takes a drop-in class and if not too green around the turn, he should be the horse to beat.

PRINCEOFGREEN ran on powerfully to win his maiden over this C&D last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He is a progressive type and with the blinkers fitted, he should be involved.

QUEEN OF CAMELOT was a tad disappointing in the Non-Black Type Highveld Winter Juvenile Fillies Stakes. She finished second in her penultimate run over this C&D. If putting her best foot forward, she should give the males a run for their money.

Race 3

BARBARESCO is the best bet on the programme. He has finished second in both his efforts to date. He raced from just off the pace over 1160m on the Standside course last time, but found one too good in the form of Sandringham Summit. He meets the right field and with Gavin Lerena in the saddle, he should take a power of beating.

NO PLACE LIKE HOME has produced two decent efforts to date. He returns from a 12-week break, during which time he would have strengthened up. If not in need of the run, he should be one of the leading contenders.

CAPTAIN TIK TOK ran a fair race over this distance last time. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. He finished third in his only attempt over this C&D. He can earn another cheque.

Race 4

This is a weak Merit Rated 68 Handicap and caution is advised. The tentative first selection is ROMEO‘S MAGIC from the Brett Warren stable. He showed some signs of a form return in his last start over 1800m at the Vaal. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. Two of his five career victories have come over this C&D and he may be the one to side with.

WONDERWORLD set the pace over 1800m on the Vaal Classic course last time and kept going. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes on stronger, but is in a good space and must be included in all bets.

FOLLOW MY PATH ran a fair race over 1600m on this course last time. He jumps from pole position and on best form shown, he can place.

Race 5

GREENLIGHT MAGIC produced an encouraging comeback run over 1600m on the Standside course last time. He raced wide around the turn and understandably lacked a finish in the straight. He would have come on from the run and should strip much fitter. He should have no issues with the rise to 1800m and may be the one to beat.

IGNATIUS was doing his best work late when third over 1500m at the Vaal last time. He has won once and finished second once from as many starts on this course. He will strip much fitter and can pose a threat.

CLIMATE CONTROL stayed on when third over 1600m on this course last time. He finished second in his only C&D attempt. With luck in running, he should run a big race.

Race 6

NOW I GOT YOU was squeezed leaving the start last time, but the manner in which he stayed on at the finish that day was encouraging. The son of Admiral Kitten takes his place in Handicap Company and will be cherry-ripe. If getting away to a clean start, he can return to winning ways.

STRATOSPHERIC was a tad disappointing over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course. He won his previous two starts well. The 12-week break would have done him the world of good and if fit, he can go close.

DESTINY OF SOULS finished 4 lengths behind the second choice last time. He is 4kgs better off at the weights today and there should not be much separating them at the finish.

Race 7

GREEN SCEPTRE‘S last two starts have been fair. He takes a drop in the ratings and drops in class. The son of Gimmethegreenlight does not meet the strongest field and with a bit of luck in running, he may be the one to cause the upset.

MABONENG got up late to win her last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that the horse that finished second that day has come out and won since. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and she should give the males a run for their money.

RATTLE BAG stayed on when third over 1600m on this course last time. He has won once and finished second once from three starts over this distance. He is carded to race on 27 June 2023 and his progress in that race will need to be monitored.

Race 8

RUNNING RIFLES was given a peach of a ride when winning his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. He would have come on from the run and against weaker company, he can follow up.

BLOOMINGTON stayed on when fourth over 1600m on the Standside course last time. He has won twice from three starts over this C&D. With a bit of luck in running, he should pose a threat to the top choice.

SURYAVARMAN has decent recent form lines to his name. He showed speed over 1200m last time and stayed on at the finish. He is likely to race on the speed and may be hard to peg back.

Race 9

CLEAN LIVING won a good race in her last start over this distance at the Vaal. She showed good speed, found another kick and drew clear in the closing stages. She received a four-pound penalty for that victory. She is carded to race on 22 June 2023 and her progress in that race will need to be monitored.

INSATIABLE ran a good race in her last start over this distance at the Vaal. She showed good pace, but was caught in the shadow of the post by Samoa. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

QHAWE LAMI fought hard for his maiden victory over this C&D last time. He does take on stronger, but has plenty of scope and should be up to the task at hand
