Race 1

BROADWAY ran a fair race when third in his last start over this distance at the Vaal. The son of Dynasty is a battling maiden, but he meets the right field today. Capable workrider Tshepiso Matsoele takes the ride and he may be able to get the best out of him where it matters most.

WILLIAMSON finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. He is 2.5kgs worse off at the weights today and may battle to turn the form around.

GODFATHER is the stable companion of the top selection. He has fair recent form lines to his name. In this line-up, he is capable of finishing in the first three.

Race 2

DAVE THE KING ran a good race when second in the Non-Black Type WSB Gold Rush over 1600m last time. Despite racing wide around the turn, he challenged strongly all the way to the line. The son of Global View returns from an 11-week break and is having his first run for the Mike de Kock stable. He is unbeaten from two starts over this distance and if not in need of the run, he can keep that record intact.

BACK IN BUSINESS followed up his debut win with an equally impressive victory over 1160m on the Standside course. It must be noted that multiple horses from his last form line have come out and won since. If not too green around the turn, he should throw out a big challenge to the top choice.

SOUTHERN SKIES is lightly raced with good form lines to her ceredit. She shows good speed and with just 54.5kgs on her back, she should give the males a good run for their money.

Race 3

LAGUNA VERDE is better than his last start in the Grade 1 WSB SA Classic. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He won a game race in the Non-Black Type Egoli Mile in his penultimate run. He will enjoy the drop in distance and he should notch up his third career victory.

TIPSY TARRAGON did not settle in the Listed Jacaranda Handicap last time and had to be switched for running room at the 400m mark. She ran a good race in her penultimate effort over 1450m on this course. Denis Schwarz steps back into the saddle and she should pose a threat.

CRIMSON KING showed good signs of a form return in his last start over 1600m on the Vaal Classic course. The 5yo gelding won his only attempt over this distance. The blinkers seem to have done the trick and he should have a say in the outcome of this contest.

Race 4

VANDERBILT has good consistent form lines to his credit. He set the pace in the Listed Wolf Power 1600 last time, but was outrun late. The son of What A Winter returns from a well-deserved 11-week break. He has won twice and finished third once from as many starts on this course. If seeing out the 1800m, he should be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.

MERIDIUS is better than his last start over 1400m on the Standside course. He finished third in his only attempt over this distance. His best form has been under Ryan Munger and the combination should be competitive.

TAMARISK TREE may not have seen out the 2000m last time. He has finished third twice from three starts over this distance. He carries a handy galloping mass of 52kgs and can run into the placings.

Race 5

AFRICAN TORRENT has been racing in feature races in his last three starts. He may not have seen out the 2450m last time. The son of Trippi won his only attempt on this course and is a two-time winner over this distance. He takes a drop in class and with Keagan de Melo in the saddle, he is capable of returning to winning ways.

TWIN TURBO is better than his last start. He has won once, finished second once and third twice from seven starts over this C&D. He is likely to race on the speed from his awkward draw of eight and may be hard to peg back.

ROMEO’S MAGIC ran on well when winning his last start over this C&D. The blinkers have done the trick on the son of Elusive Fort. He jumps from pole position and will be mowing down the frontrunners.

Race 6

BLOOMINGTON raced from a handy position over this distance on the Vaal Classic course last time, but found one too good in the form of Trident King. The son of Wylie Hall was ultra-impressive when winning his penultimate effort over this C&D. He jumps from pole position and can notch up his fifth career victory.

ANGEL OF WAR was running on too late when third over 1400m at the Vaal last time. It must be noted that Mescal has come out and won again since. The son of Act Of War will enjoy the rise to the mile and is one of the leading contenders.

FUTUREWOLFF found extra when winning over 2000m on the Standside course last time. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He takes a rise in class, but is in a good space and should be up to the task at hand.

Race 7

TRE AMICI showed good speed in his last start over this distance on the Vaal Classic course, but was outrun late by Smith And Wesson. It must be noted that the form of that race has been franked. He has finished second once and third once from as many starts over this C&D. S’manga Khumalo retains the ride and the combination may be hard to peg back in the run down to the line.

AXEL COLLINS finished 1.5 lengths behind the top choice last time. The pair meet on the same weight terms today and he may have to settle for the same result.

COVERT OPERATOR was slow into stride over this C&D last time, but finished off his race strongly. He takes a drop in class and if jumping on terms, he should be involved in the fight to the finish.

Race 8

NETTLETON won a game race on debut over this distance on the Standside course. She showed good speed, found another kick and drew off in the closing stages. It must be noted that the horse that finished fourth that day has come out and won since. The daughter of What A Winter takes on stronger, but she could be anything and may be up to the task at hand.

LAETITIA’S ANGEL raced from just off the pace over this C&D last time, tried hard but found one too good in the form of Love Bite. Should the top choice fluff her lines, she may be the one to pick up the pieces.

VIRGINIA BEACH was a tad disappointing in the Listed Ruffian Stakes last time. It must be noted that multiple horses from that form line have come out and won since. If finding the form of her first two career outings, she should give her older rivals a run for their money
